Drakart engine
« on: April 23, 2010, 08:47:42 PM »
I have a 2000 Drakart formula cross with a type 583 rotax in it. I love the buggy but am already thinking up upgrading the motor, or really just getting one as a spare. 583's can be had a fair prices but I would really like to drop a 670 in there. From what I have read the 670 is also rotary. Has anyone else made this swap or can speak for the power difference of a 583 vs 670?  Can mods be done to the 670 to increase its displacement ?

G'Day Sun,seen this Drak 670 vid?

How do you think it compares to yours?
Might give ya some idea.
Whatever you do,fab it all up with the orig ali Skidoo eng mount plate with rubbers, and a torque snubber to the trans to maintain critical clutch parallelism.
Cheers Baz.

yup, that video is what got me thinking.... not sure if a 670 is worth the cost of the upgrade or not, you cant seem to get them cheap like you can the 583's.

There's something(anything) cheap about this sport?

loyalty to the American people."

The Crank Shop makes or did make a 1000cc rotary valve twin. They makes all sorts of other parts for Rotax engines too. I am using one of their shorty rotary valve covers on my 583 Formula Cross so that the left carb sits level.
