Title: Looking to buy a 40' gooseneck...
Post by: Doug Heim on August 16, 2015, 10:04:22 AM
Ok guys... I finally have a truck up for the task and the boys are getting to that age. I'm in the market for a 40' car hauler. I'd like 32' in the cargo bay with the 8' overhang. Prefer the additional 12" ceiling. If anyone knows of anything out there available, let me know before I have one built and spend too much money!!!

look on racing junk .com in the trailer classifieds section. otherwise ordering new allows you to have frame members moved for crapper tanks with a taller roof and two roof airs

There's one out here that's been for sale for a while.  It'd need some work but the price is right............

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/rvs/5143241816.html (http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/rvs/5143241816.html)

I'm looking for one with living quarters in it.  I saw this one a while ago but it's just too much of a project for me.

Brian, I think it is 8.5' wide... The measurements he gave were from inside wheel well. If it is a 8.5' wide, I may be interested. I would re do it entirely ripping out most everything. Good thing is most everything is there. Just need to configure it differently... Man more I think of it... She sure is a project.... If it had a bare interior that was finished with a decent floor and insulated, heat and a/c... I'd buy it all day long! That's the size windows are a plus!!!

My 45' red trailer is for sale but it's only 8 foot wide.$15K would buy it though. Fits 2 quads and blue buggy with room still for occupants while loaded.Could fit 2 sxs as well.

quote 7'9" in width not including the wheel well. The distance from the back of the rear of the garage to the wheel well is 10' and the distance between the two wheel wells is 77".  quote

it would be 82" or 83" between wheel wells  and 8' or 8' 2" wide inside of walls if it were 8'.5"/ 102" wide

Just checked my red Haulmark. 100" outside,96" wall to wall inside,84" wheelwell to wheelwell,94" door opening. Door opening is all that really matters.
Title: Re: Looking to buy a 40' gooseneck...
Post by: dsrace on August 17, 2015, 09:16:14 AM
100" outside is classified as a 8 and a half footer. and yes the door opening is all that counts. 8 foot wides don't have that big of a door opening.

I'll take som pics tonite. Easiest for me to just email them to you. WHen I bought it I basically got a hollow 1996(IIRC)Haulmark and converted it to living quarters. Don't quote me on this but I think I bought the trailer about 7 years ago.  I started out by replacing all 3 axles, tires and new brakes all around. Everything but the Onan 5200 Marquis Gold genny used for conversion was bought new then . Genny is like new. 2 rooftops,one13,500 and a 15,000 (pretty sure one is a 15,000 eyes ) Suburban heater, Suburban 5 gallon gas/elec water heater and also an on demand heater as well for those long, long hot showers when at camp with full hookups. VERY nice to have unlimited hot water.    Full queen size memory foam bed in front. Large shower/toilet combo . Kitchen  with microwave but no stove. Winegard Automatic Satellite TV -fantastic for ease of use. Seating is unique with 2 Lazy Boy rocker/glider/recliners. Just like being at home.  Tires on it now were installed 2 years ago.  Blah,blah,blah......................... Roof is 1/4" tick TPO pontoon boat decking. Should never need replaced.

Naaaaaa. F.O.B. C'ville,Kan. Sorry ,doug. I got busy with some last minute loading issues. I'll get you those pics tomorrow. I can tell you anything you want to know about it @ St.A.. I'll add one negative to the list though. You would likely want to repaint it. original red is in perfect condition on 3 sides but the passenger side is scratched all to hell. It looks like someone took a dirty push broom after it. Honestly,it would be perfect for your needs. Open floor,no walls, from rear door all the way to the bed. I love it,nothing wrong with it, but, I have outgrown it. I love all the room to roam around in it unlike the toter. Toter is due for a remodel probably next winter. Add a couple slides will make it a lot better.

Nope, I called Dibs. This is my thread  rofl

This picture will do for now. Send more when you can. I did find the old build thread you started back in 2009. I remember fast giving you some grief about all the extra weight you were putting in it which brings up 3 more questions... What is the weight of the trailer? What size axles do you have under it now? What type of gas mileage do you get pulling it with your Duramax?

You should just bring it to Saint Anthony and we will have a big show and tell.

Honestly,I have no idea the weight. If you like the pics I could take it in to the scales. I believe I put 3 7K Dexter ez lube torsion axles under it with a 3" higher ride.6 wheel brakes.  Milage varies of course depending on terrain. I also don't seem to get anywhere close to the milage most claim for their empty duramax's. So,with that said I have seen as high as 12 and as low as 8. Bear in mind I only average 13.5 hwy mileage or so empty.

About the same as LS from you. ;) ;) ;D Someone needs to buy it. It is well worth the 15 and it costs very little in taxes since it is registered as a regular trailer. At least in Kansas that is how it works.  Oh,I forgot to mention the Xantrex 2500 watt inverter charger. The best there is.Add up all the stuff this thing has and it's almost like getting the trailer shell for free.

Oh,pics won't come till tomorrow, sorry guys. The thread doug linked to gives a pretty good idea of how it looks though.

Here's 11 pics. Trailer has been sitting for about 6 months since last use. Needs a bit of cleaning. The pics of the scratches is to show what I meant on the passenger side. They just seemed to appear from no where. The pic makes them look quite a bit worse than they really are though.

That's what I thought at first but it seriously looks loke someone took a dirty pushbroom to it sometime and the small scratches are now "growing" as the paint ages. No to south exposure, faces east 99% of the time.

It was the only place to put the ONAN t keep as much open floor space as possible . The aluminum container is a semi under trailer cargo box that just happened to fit it perfectly to protect the genny from the elements.

Honestly, It towed it great.  It would pass semitrucks with no trouble at all.  Keep in mind though that it was empty.....    If you were out on the flat somewhere it was hard to tell it was even back there.  Until you went to turn that is and that's a whole nother story  :o  I'll definitely have a learning curve with the whole turning thing.

Both of those appear to be same size as my red trailer. It's a 45 foot Haulmark. The duramax's will tow them all day long and be ready for more.

I have a 40' with 6" extra Height, Lance got the 48' with extra 12" Height. Yes my Duramax pulls it very well. I have since loaded it up and cannot tell too much of a difference. When at Hwy speed you somewhat forget that it is there...
