A big thank you to Bill at Arizona Transaxle!

What??? You need to know EVERYFOOKENTHING???  LMAO ;D ;D Bill fixed me up with some special(read EXPENSIVE) tools and some spare pieces to set up a VW transaxle properly. He gave me a VERY fair deal and I just want to give him a public thank you and recommend him to any members that might need transaxle service/components. They've been around for a long time for a good reason-customer service!

So far so good on mine.

Bill, any thougts on the Weddle box?  Saw it at the Arizona Dirt Expo and compared directly to mendi 2d - looks like the choice of units vs. a 2d.  Very stoout and no slave cyl - well, not an external one.

I think the Weddle box is very promising. Weddle is not calling it a 2-D replacement. The case design should prove stronger than the Mendi and that should reduce ring&pinion failures. The transmission portion is VW vanagon which has a MUCH stronger reverse.(big plus). But the mainshaft diameter where the inputshaft couples to it is VW sized. The 2-D is considerably larger. The 2-D has a wider second and third which are the two most used (read worn out or broken) gears in the trans not counting reverse. So I would have to place the  overall strength of this box between the E and the 2-D. Probably closer to the 2-D. Time will tell.

Hi Bill,

Once again thinking about a "Slinger."

I know you build the boxes for them.  So, couple of questions.  Do you think the 003 would hold up on them?  Would a 091 be a direct replacement re: mounting points, linkage etc?  How much is a 091 geared correctly?

The 002 we build for the Slinger is an 002 w/close 3-4. A built 091 would be MUCH stronger. If you use an 002 bellhousing the 091 is 5/16 longer in the intermediate housing. I think  if I was ordering a new chassis I would ask Joe to bolt a spacer on his jig to move the front mount foward by that amount. Then you could run either trans with the use of a spacer on the 002.

This thread is worthless with out pictures.  What's a Slinger?

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.
