Do we have any members here that have FEA software? If so I'd appreciate some FEA help on a shaft design. I can supply material specs.I can supply CADs of different profiles wishing to FEA.

I can probably get that done for you...Probably. They will have to be modeled in Pro-E. I might not be overnight as it'll get fit in around real work, I'm not trying to be negative about that I just want you to understand from the start the situation. I don't do FEA myself (I'm not that smart
) so I have to farm it out to one of my smarter colleagues. Send me the profiles and the loads and the materials/properties and I'll see what I can do.

P.S. I can model it in Pro-E if you send me the details. That's the easy part

IGES is best but it'll import most others with less than optimum results.

Well, with further thought I decided to go ahead and add FEA to my Alibre CAD. Really pisses me off though. Previous versions of Alibre had Algorhytmm as part of the package. Not now tho, gotta buy FEMdesigner AD to have FEA integrated nto Alibre CAD. Just more Alibre BS but it is wat it is. Just another yearly expense added to it. IMO all of this stuff is a legal ripoff but again ,it is what it is........................... Lance,I thank you very much for the offer but,as usual,I always prefer to make my own mistakes. Can't duck my being responsible for whatever results occur that way.
Again ,thanks for the offer Lance.

Does anyone else get very weary of being told by the pros that you can't do something because you didn't "pay your dues spending months/years in school learning something"? I'm trying my hand with FEA software. I go to the site to ask a question and right off the bat I get the "elite attitude" telling me to go to school. I need to be able to do the math manually before I use FEA. WHY?
Why should I have to be able to do the math when the software does it? Isn't that what software is for? WHY would I or anyone want to double check their software results manually? Hell,if you gotta do that you might as well just do it manually and forget the "pretty pics" the software produces. To me it just is an elite,I'm gonna protect my years of education,I'm gonna discourage others from doing what I do for a living and spent years learning. Well,I understand the sentiment but fortunately spending months learning the methods is not now a total requirement to do much of what we do now. Sorry others had to spend months or even years(time I don't have) learning what the software already knows. It's called progress.

This time it was just a forum. I always do as you suggest if dealing with a company.

Yeah thats a crap answer, if you dont want to help someone out why would you join a forum? And if you dont want to answer it go on to next thread.
On a positive note, for $100 go down to Tulsa and stay at a Holiday Inn Express, by morning you'll have all kinds of FEA crap spewing out of you. Thats how I became a DR.
