440 soon to be a 570 buggy
« on: October 18, 2008, 08:33:46 PM »
I need to get some new pics but i have a home built buggy i bought from a guy about a year ago. It had an 80's 340 enticer sled engine in it when i bought it. It used a solid quad rear axle in the back and quad a-arms in the front.

Well as soon as i bought it i started looking for new engines. The 35 or so hp from the 340 wasn't going to fulfill my need for speed. I found a beautiful complete Yamaha 440 exciter sled locally for $300 bucks. The 50 hp from that engine was a little nicer but that straight axle was killing me. You couldn't go over 25-30 mph without losing complete control if you hit some whoops, it was annoying. The front end was also built pretty badly.

I built a complete indepdent rear suspension for it, widened the front end, i've basically rebuilt the whole buggy. The only thing that's the same as when i bought it is the seat, that's about it.

Not to long ago i bought a 570 eciter engine, that little bastard pushes out about 95 hp, that's a little more my speed :) . I just started putting it in a few days ago, so far the motors mounted and i'm about to start working on the pipes. I have a twin set of PSI pipes, there huge and take up a TON of space so there going to be a challenge to fit. I'll take some pics soon.

I've been contimplating the shifter myself. i have a spare shift linkage laying around that i'm going to start experimenting on once i'm farther along with the 570 install. Not to mention the Pilot i have and the ody i have, both getting rebuilt with new engines. I have WAY to many projects. Oh yeah my turbo car needs a new headgasket and retuned, forgot about that.... :)

Hi Jay could you post some pics. I just started building a mini and have two yamaha 570s on the shelf. It will be a single seater and was wondering how much power it has for a buggy. lso need mounting ideas for both the motor and the secondary.Buggy is a desert karts.

Well just set the 570 in the chassis and it is going to be to hard to route the exhaust almost in the back of the seat. So I changed my mind and pulled a rotax 467 L/C off the shelf and will be usng that motor, anyone have any imput on the power this motor will make in a single seater buggy?Exhaust will fit nice and motor mounts a lot simpler than the yamaha.

You want sled power.  Here's sled power.  My son's old 1200CC sled powered Quad.  9.1 at 129 MPH on asphalt. 4.1 at 78 in 100 yards on sand.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

These are the best ones I got of panthers with sled engines Mousie. Hope they lend something towards your goal.
