Title: Compact tractors
Post by: SPEC on December 18, 2009, 12:35:14 PM
My Minni poppped the Onan...not much notice of it's intent to expire...about 15 seconds...littl puff of smoke outta 1 pipe...and poof kaboom in the middle of the streetwith a box on it...Hydrostat.hydrolic steeing dead so I rammed it sideways with the s-10 and in the shop it sits...I got a line on a new motor for it...But this morning I discovered that the frame is breaking in 3 places and the hyd steering sector is about ready to get torn off AGAIN
so I went to the power/lawn shop and looked at Kubota 4wd sub compacts...I find out the BX series won't lift any more than my minni But the B series will lift over 900 pounds
Any body have a Kubota or any stories good or bad they want to tell?

I have a Kubota B7610 with a LA352 front end loader. I've never measured what it can lift, but it easily lifts the back wheels off the ground before the hydraulics quit. I keep a box blade on it to help. My only complaint would be that it only lifts to about 5 1/2' with the bucket level.

Post by: SPEC on December 18, 2009, 02:02:10 PM
Thanks Vidio
That's all the higher I need to lift, that's 3 boxes tall for me

I'm just choking on putting out 14 grand for a new one...
But I really can't justify chasing the breakage on the minni any longer
If It was summer and I didn't need it every single day, I'd prolly rebuild it...But it's winter and humping firewood sux balls

Have ya considered a used skid steer loader?  Might be a little rough on ya,  but you use the minni for lifting and pushin snow.  A skid loader does both of those well and used ones can be found for 2k-3k in the size you'd need.

Post by: vidio1 on December 18, 2009, 02:22:28 PM
yeah I wasn't keen on shelling out that kind of money either, but I had borrowed an older Tractor to mow around here and spent more time keeping it running that mowing. That's all it took for me. I tossed the plan of buying used. I've never looked back. I needed the PTO and 3 point hitch, so a Tractor over a skid steer was a no brainer for me.

me too
I had a small bobcat...but with as much stuff as I move I'd have no lawn...
Plus I have a 4' tiller/backblade and forl attachment that will fit this tractor already ;D
The boss is filling out the paperwork as we speak

No cab?
Title: Re: Compact tractors
Post by: vidio1 on December 23, 2009, 01:11:43 AM
I remember that day for mine...It was just about a year and a half ago. I backed it off the trailer, crammed it into a dirt pile I had been saving and got stuck. Took several minutes to find the 4X4 switch. Naturally I was too cool to hear the presentation of controls when I bought it. LOL. looks just like mine, but by the specs it's a size bigger, maybe 2. Mines 24hp with a 2 speed HST.

VIDIO,
That's FOOKEN funny rofl
I did that learning on the dealers demo unit ;D
Piss on the bucket I headed for the biggest snow pile on the lot...drove it in in 2 wd...as far as it would go  locked in the 4 and stomped the diff locker just to see if I could make it thru
Damn 4 wheel drive with a diff lock sure beats the hell outa 2 wheel and turning brakes...
Next I went over to a pile of landscape rocks and went after that...Poor sales man couldn't watch...I think he had to go clean out his shorts from watching me go apeshit on his demo LMAO
Obviously it passed the test...But I didn't want that one...Not if every one demo'ed it like I did...Mine got here with .5 hours on the meter
Mines a 23 HP liquid cooled deisel, the HST has 3 ranges The bucket lifts to about 7 feet...Kyle hit the garage ceiling with it ???

I might still be making the trip after the 1st of the year.. I'll talk to boomer
No I didn't sleep in the shop...I'm saving that till I put the 1st scratch in it
Lock the doors and don't come out till the SPECINATOR calms down rofl
I do think it needs a couple coats of good wax tho-   seems to help with the tree branch scratches ;D
Title: Re: Compact tractors
Post by: SPEC on December 27, 2009, 06:21:20 AM
Well...The boda got it's 1st scratch... :-\ eyes :-X
And I didn't have to sleep in the shop...Barb put the ROP's up while it was warming up outside...I was gearing up... I DIDN'T NOTICE  5: hopped on and started pushing snow...Caught a tree branch Bout 4" in diameter...didn't realize I had it till it smacked me in the head and flopped on the hood...
Wait.....
It gets better... Barb comes over to help me...who is just fooking furious that the ROP is up...After explaining that it is WAY TOO FOOKING TALL...
She puts it up anyway  :-[
I had pulled the pins and was untangling the broken branches out of it...I just started to flip it down...Here's Barb right under it...Bonks her right in the Fooking mellon...I figure she's going to be unconscious with a gushing head wound...FOOK NO that woman's head is sooooo fooking hard she didn't even get a goose egg LMAO
I don't think she'll put the ROP up again with out consulting me 1st
No damage to the Boda...Little buffing compound...and a couple of aspirins for the little lady...and all is good here ;D

 rofl rofl rofl
I'm just not used to something that is 3 feet taller than me for no apparent reason... I didn't notice that it was up till I hooked the branch...I'll just charge Glady extra for the tree trimming ;D
She has me trim those trees every spring :P

Title: Re: Compact tractors

I'd like to shorten it, and weld up a canopy for it...Then I could hang some mirrors off it so I could see better behind me
Title: Re: Compact tractors
Post by: vidio1 on December 27, 2009, 11:31:26 AM
I have a fiberglass canopy on mine...It makes mowing for hours on end tolerable in the summer heat. You'll need that extra height of the ROPS to get on and off of it without smacking your forehead every time. With the canopy on mine just clears an 8ft garage door.

Tractor looks nice. You may need tire chains. Thinking of getting some for the loader on the farm these big snow this have caused me to get it stuck a couple times pushing the snow. Dig to the ice and I'm screwed getting out of where I push the snow.

Wow Spec that's cool man I like the job you did on the drive or is a road?

 ;D
Some of the roads I used the blower on and some I used the bucket...Some I just put it in 4 WD and kicked the diff lock and went for broke ;D I think from now on I'll prolly use the blower on everything...I'll get some pix of the blower in action to day...It has no business out in the woods....but man it does a nice job clearing the snow off my logging trails...smaller sticks and grass just get chewed up and spit out with the snow, I still have to adjust the speed on the impeller but I'lll use it this way till I break the belt then I'll change the pulleys around :o eyes ;D
But with it mounted on the fork...I can lift it to 7 feet in the air, change the angle of the auger, apply as much down pressure as it needs to chew though the snowbanks and Ice...
Plus it's a 30 second change from the blower on or off to the fork...where the bucket is a 5 minute 2 man job

I use a 80hp tractor with a 7.5ft blower on the rear for my driveway.  Heated cab with a stereo is nice when it's -40*C out!!!  Of course, I've got 12 driveways to do also...

Spec is the snow blower PTO driven off the front of the tractors motor or is it hydraulic driven?
Title: Re: Compact tractors
Post by: fabr on February 06, 2010, 01:55:14 PM
dedicated engine for the blower
Title: Re: Compact tractors
Post by: SPEC on February 07, 2010, 03:28:00 AM
Yup,
dedicated motor on the blower,
Cuz around here the driveways have such a sharp incline I need to be able to change the angle and lift the blower more than I could with the mid PTO...
Plus  needed it to be on and of very quickly(Fork mounted)

It looks to me like that shear pin is too big for that dia shaft, Chinese or otherwise.
Title: Re: Compact tractors
Post by: SPEC on March 04, 2010, 04:34:06 AM
I'll have to get some more pix....
Ya when Specinator got home from work the shit hit the fan...The drive was protected by a 1/4" "NO GRADE BOLT" on the input shaft...That fooken box was rated for 40 HP...My Boda is rated at 19 @the pto...IT WAS IDLING
The 3PT. post hole digger is a Shaver...built in Rochester MN...and is the WORST CRAFTSMANSHIP I HAVE EVER SEEN........Nothing was deburred.....the pins, plain old hot rolled round stock. not chamfered,or deburred...the paint job was over raw steel...No primer, or a wipedown, I'll get pix...pretty disappointing for American made quality
I also have to add it doesn't have a guide bar to guide the auger or a provision to mount one so everything just flops around...this is my 3rd post hole auger...The 1st one got used to punch holes into the rootbase for blowing stumps behind a Farmall super M...The 2nd one was used for making holes for pole barns, and foundations for log homes behind a Farmall H...Both of those got the shit kicked out of them and came back for more
I could have spent 300 bux less and got a Chinese one
The bit is an even bigger joke
The machine work is good, The weld is pretty good...But it isn't what I ordered and it took a month to get here thumb down
Here's where it gets to make you giggle
The holes for the shear pins were in the wrong places...an inch too low on the shaft and not at 45* spread...I had to elongate the holes to get the shear bolts in, and cut off an inch on top...VOIDING THE WARRANTY

WAIT THE SAGA CONTINUES.....
The Bit is too small to tear the wood apart as it screws in...it pulls the log up to the near the gear box and if you can't break the peices apart..get out the chainsaw and cut it off the bit...
I'll just get more pix
I do gotta say that the Boda is top notch...

Title: Re: Compact tractors

Are the pins supposed to have a bushing in there to take up the slack? I know some of our 3 point stuff uses bushings or it is sloppy.
Title: Re: Compact tractors
Post by: SPEC on March 04, 2010, 07:07:05 AM
No the output shaft takes a 1/2" pin the pix are showing the input shaft shear bolt VS. the output shaft sizing  ;D
Lesson learned on this deal... I should have just had the rear wet kit put on the Boda, and robbed a couple of cylenders off the skidder and built a hydraulic splitter in the first place

Quick update :o
Finally got ahold of the dealer yesterday :t
Been to sick the last month to do anything...He tells me he'll call Shaver to see what they will do...So I'm hopefull that I won't be driving down and trying to throw that fooker thru- their window ;D

On a positive note the GREAT PUNKIN will hit the 100 hour mark today jj:
Basically trouble free...except I had to patch and slime one front tire...ran over a big staple... As soon as I find the camera, I'll post pix of the new 4 foot splitter that got built as well ;D

Now I am confused....  You have a post hole digger and a screw wood splitter?  So the splitter will screw into the log, but it won't split even with the screw all the way in so chainsaw is required to remove the log from the splitter?  Do you have a pic of the whole splitter or did you shitcan it and just built a new "traditional" splitter?
Title: Re: Compact tractors
Post by: SPEC on May 06, 2010, 05:08:24 AM
I shit canned the whole fooken hunk of shit...But I still have the bit here...
THE BIT IS TOO SMALL IN DIAMETER...AND WAY TO FOOKEN SHORT...The dealer sorta gave me my money back...he took the 600 bux and put it towards my new deck...and gave me a 3point pto driven loaner til my deck comes in ;D
I'll get some pix if the bit for ya...I almost tossed it on the load of iron  kick
Now the traditional splitter   ff:   thats the second one built this spring...
The 1st one was the traditional "I" beam...8" X 8" by 3/8" thick...worked fine...till I crushed some truck tires in it nono

This one is 6" X 10" 5/16" rectangle tube...4" x 22" with a 2" piston..Terrex Ram off the skidder...The control valve is mounted on the slide plate so it moves with the wood this keeps me really close to the work  8) No more truck tires...Barnes 2 stage 11gpm pump with a 9 HP. E start Briggs vanguard motor, supplies the crushing...Beam twisting/bending power drowning
There is also a flip down plate...push 22"...retract....Push the last 22"
Or toss the shorty 16" hunks in and split like a normal splitter
I'll get some pix soon...Been just fooken crazy around here

I always wondered how one of those screw splitters would work.  What is the diameter of the big end?  6"?

A "screw splitter" works very well. First it  splits off some of your money and then it screws you .  Right Spec?  ;) ;) ;) ;)

Ok here's the screw part
The one I talked to the dude on the phone about was 24" long and over 10" on top...
This is what I got sent...when I called him up and told him he shipped the wrong one...they don't make that one anymore...
This one works just as good...ask your wife if size matters

Been a long time since a GREAT PUNKIN update....
GREAT PUNKIN.....Is really the GREAT LEMON...
Been starting it with a screwdriver....ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS....GOTTA leave the side panel off the engine compartment...that causes a heat issue...but tearing apart every day...now the grill fits funny...Throttle sticks wide open...won't idle down...unless you tear the dash apart or you have crawl under the fooken piece of shit...and pry against the go peddle to get it to idle down...not a good idea when the fooken hunk of shit is gonna run you over while your prying the throttle down...
well...today...the tach took a shit...Dash fits like shit...plastic...steel...lousy fit and finish...this afternoon...I had to have PURPLE M&M weld up the loader control...FOOKEN FELL OFF

We serve Hand Made onion rings...They are harder than hell on the oil.. So I use the oil to cook french fry's till It's almost used up then finish it off with the O-rings...
So it kinda smells like Funyons rofl
Seriously it does smell pretty not too bad...way better than deisel fuel...I'll try to get some pix soon of what it all looks like...
I check the filters constantly and no tasty  crunchy's so far in them rofl rofl
