Title: Horizontal brake caliper mounting
Post by: Wyattboche on February 12, 2017, 03:57:51 PM
I'm building an Ice Auger machine and trying to figure out if I can mount my brake caliper horizontaly. Or does it need to be vertical to bleed the air out?

As long as the bleeder is the highest point, orientation doesn't matter.

Worst case scenario even if the bleeder is not orientated up ,it could be bled by removing it ,placing an appropriate sized spacer between the pads and bleeding it while vertical. Then replace on machine.

could you remove bleeder screw and mount a 90* fitting so the bleeder is facing vertical? Or won't that work?

Won't work. Outlet would still not be on the top. Air would still be trapped in the cavity above the port inside the caliper.  Removing the caliper and bleeding it isn't a big deal since you shouldn't have to do it but once. Just find something approx the same thickness as the rotor ,place between pads and bleed that sucka.

Had to remove and bleed my old green car.  Piece of 1/4" flat worked perfect.  As Fabr said only one time.  And may have been easier as flex lines reached right to where pedal was I could do it all by myself w/o even moving out of a chair.  LOL

That'll work. Never thought about it that way. Thanks
