Titanium Filler Rod
« on: May 01, 2010, 05:26:56 PM »
My nephew is an instructor at a trades school and gave me some titanium TIG filler rod. Probably got 15 pounds of the stuff. Any idea what it's worth? Also I've never welded any titanium but I do have some drop offs so I thought I'd give it a try. Any welders here have some guidelines on TIG welding titanium?

All I know is the price of the filler rod was enough to make me never want to mess with it. It's more than the mag rod for welding up VW cases..........

Good Luck.....  That's all I got if it is anything like aluminum!  I would sell it and save the frustration.

from what someone told me... Titanium is easier to weld than Stainless, and Stainless IMO is very easy with TIG welding.

From what I have read......gas coverage is very important, and so is heat input.  Anything darker than straw colored is too hot.  Run a big cup and purge the backside or place in a purged (?) environment like a rubbermaid container.  I know, I know, plastic melts.  Try metal then....
