Depending on terrain if that's a major problem or not, and I'm guessing I repeat, guessing, that a tandem arrangement mini will still be shorter than most full size cars in the dunes, depending on the arrangement.  I'm not saying it's the best arrangement, I just think it's a cool idea, kinda like a fighter jet!!

side by side is the only way to go in my opinion. otherwise you dont see the other person, its like your by yourself. Its nice to have that person next to you and see their face.  as for the shifter.  i used a hand shifter with the clutch mounted to it. After 5 minutes of driving it felt perfectly natural and is very nice. I tried the foot clutch first but didnt like it.

yea its got to be sidexside. the clutch on the shifter will save me alittle money too since i already have it.  Im trying to use all the parts off the motorcycle that i can. budget is alittle tight and ive got to save where i can cause im not going cheap on safety stuff (seats, harness, ect.)

the only issue you will have is finding a cable the right length. or if its hydraulic clutch, then getting longer line. mine is cable, and i had to retap the clutch housing for a longer cable i got. easy fix.

trying to decide on a frame is to much trouble.  I like the R82s but i just dont want to throw all this money in a buggy and i end up not being able to use it like i want. I guess if i build it and its to big for what i want i can always sell it and hopefully atleast get my money out of it
