Sorry Fabr...re-read your post...makes sense now! You are absolutely right abouot spending the dough for the good stuff...I still fing myself willing to tinker a little to save some cash though. That seems to keep me in the shop more than out driving, I think that's why I bought another Jeep project... They pretty much fall together since you don't have to build many parts for 'em.

LOL!! I understand completely!
"There can be no divided allegiance here.  Any man who says he is an American,
but something else also, isn't an American at all.  We have room for but one
flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is
the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a
loyalty to the American people."

all toys are fun as long as we spend more time playing than on the wrong end of the good old push rope!  ;D   but if your going to build it you really need to build it strong the first time even if it takes a little longer and it will definitely cost more. I had to learn this lesson the hard way of course by simply no listening to trans man about stock vw parts in my trans axle and in the long run it wound up costing me a little over $500 more than doing it right the first time around. that and having to be towed backwards over 3 small dunes!

I just think the subee might be worth exploring a little as long as I am not just throwing $100 bills in a fire.

What about a tranny out of a Porche, 911, 914 any rear engine.  They're about the same size a Vw stuff.  Its already built to handle the Hp and torque that we are wanting to put into theat vw/or subi.  If your going to molest it to couple to a V-tech or Busa, does it matter.  Unless it rotates wrong way, in which case you just run 90+ in reverse. rofl

Epic Fail.  The Porsche trans is one of the worst. They cost big $$$$$$$$ to work on and have the smallest teeth on the syncros of any of the transmitions.   They are made for road racing where you are not making a fast shift.  Been there and done that.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

I seriously think fabbr has found it but the bus box's are getting harder to come by used but they are available new! It just so happens I have a 914 transaxle and those were mid engine but like fast says after looking inside even with out the knowledge of a trans builder I could see it wouldn't take it.  :'( so then I had a $400 idea I wound up giving to my dad for his next fg buggy build 9 years ago and it is still sitting in his shop!
