Title: Subaru motor/trans

Ok I heard this today that some one was running a Subaru motor but with a stock Subaru trans. They said that they capped the back driveline hole and ran the two fronts ones. Do any of you know what they are doing? I would love to see this. oh the trans was a auto

I don't have a clue really but wouldn't the axles be of different lengths and pretty short limiting travel?

Subaru's are front engine, AWD, fabr. The tranny is in the center.

Subee trannies are only a little wider than VW if at all. (I have never measured but the differance aint much.  Also in the mid to early 90's they made a good bunch of front wheel drive only Subees with the same setup tranny. Just no power tap to the tail end. 

The only issue I could for see is the AWD trannies have a system in them that provides symetrical AWD so its always trying to drive the front and rear tires. Removing the rear driveshaft might cause issues inside the tranny if the system was forced to send all the power out the front only via whatever Subees use for the clutch in that setup that divides the power from front to rear. Heck it may not have any isses but I would want to know that before I made a machine around it. Bill

A couple of inches can make easily 3-5 degrees difference less travel even on a wide car.I'd check that out thoroughly before deciding. Nutz,good observation about the tranny. You hit on a very important issue possibly.

The trans would drive the wheels backwards in a rear engine setup.

I do think he was favoring a mid engine setup but do not know that.

A lot of the early 90's subarus were two wheel drive front only. Mid to end of the 90's they went to awd for them all.

Maybe of interest . i have a 2wd auto box in the shed from a 93 liberty wagon

the outputs from the diff are slined and the stub end's are 240mm from
tip to tip , will obviously be wider once adapters are made up ?
