Going to build 2 seater buggy need opinions
« on: August 05, 2009, 04:03:59 PM »
I bought the badland buggy's ST4 plans and I don't like how they have done some of the design on the chassis. Here is the pic of the chassis. What would you change and why?

I personally would try to do a trailing arm.   I am not sure if it would be better/stronger.  Maybe someone can chime in on it.

BTW the plans look good.  Are they more detailed?

Several advantages with the A arms in the rear. Depends on intended use a bit tho also.

but something else also, isn't an American at all.  We have room for but one
flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is
the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a
loyalty to the American people."

Here are some of the pics from the website.

I would redo the front A-arms and the rear center section. Change the rear to Doug Heims just casue I like the setup that's in the piranha.

Define detailed? Not as good as the Edge's. But a good starting point. Wish it was more detailed but then it wouldn't be a challenge then HA. ;D

What would you change to lighten it?

Change as much square and rectangular tube to round as you can (especially the rollbar and the suspension arms), change those rear shafts for axles and CVs, and do something (run a length of pipe between the rails at the front where the shocks go past, triangulate that down to the two lower rails that go between the upper front arm mounts and also the arm mounts themselves as well, and mount the shocks to the outside of the front upper rails) about those front upper shock mounts.

Mount the fuel tank in behind the seats, narrow up that rear drive assembly significantly, and do a Doug and double shear those steering rod ends on the front uprights.

Move the rear upper shock mounts forward to where that crossbar is, and delete the little angled bit of tube that goes to where the shocks used to mount.

I'd probably use trailing arms then.

Use tube for the a arms not rec stock. They have the thrust going through the weak axis in the pics. Would expect them to fail.

That's what I meant.  It is nice to see they include DXF files.   i wish Edge had did the same thing.
