« on: May 26, 2009, 07:01:17 PM »
It looks like i need to fit a 3/8 npt  (sensor) into a 12 by 1.75 hole ( aluminum head water temp sensor hole). I am thinking a helicoil will be to big, anyone have any other thoughts??

3/8 npt is bigger than 12mm so I'm not sure how the heli coil would work anyway. You could drill and tap it.

It looked like the 12 mm was`bigger then the 3/8. I will have to try a test run first to see if there is enough to do the drill and tap. thanks Livewire

12mm is bigger than 3/8", but 3/8 NPT is bigger than 12mm. Pipe size is based on the minimum ID of the pipe. The threads are on the OD. 3/8 NPT is around 5/8". 1/8" NPT would be around 3/8".
