Title: Blueprint reading
Post by: Wyattboche on February 17, 2010, 08:04:54 PM
So I need to freshing up my blueprint reading skills for my interview tomorrow. In my interview tomorrow I have to take a skills test which includes assembling 1200 piece assembly in 2 hours. Where can I find some info on blueprint reading? And is there any advice for reading blueprints you wanta pass on.

Also, they build robotic arms to handle nuclear waste for power plants. If I get the job I will be assembling these arms.

This might sound well funny but have you googled it? There is quite a bit of stuff on it and stuff on you tube! It is houses but if you look it may have more technical stuff! Hope that helps.. Also when I went for one job they gave us a booklet and they said to read it and do as it said! When you were reading it seemed to go on a bit and there was questions in there but it was a trick blokes started doing the questions but I keept reading at the end it said now that you have finished reading this do questions 4&6 and go out side. Then blokes started freak'n out thinking hey how come he's finished he must be smart! And you'd see em trying to rush through it all. SO make sure you read all you're suppose to! ;D

Exactly Reidy!!  Once had a test w/100 question 1hr time limit.  Most jumped right into test w/o reading directions (def:book of crap men usually throw away rofl) all but 3 failed.  You were only to put your name on the paper.

But you probably still need to know how to read blueprints, especially if your gonna be at the 2 new necular plant their gonna start in S Ga.  Thats too close to me. nono

not blue prints. poor prints. here is the place that I had the interview with. The foreman said if it wasn't for Barack Obama they wouldn't be hiring 3 guys. This is what I would mostly be building. The Power plant ordered 90 of these for 1 year. And they have a 10 year contract.

I forgot to mention the work hours. For the first 90 days (3 month trial period through temp agency) I'll work 5-10 hour days. Then After my probation period mandatory 5-16 hour days. The foreman was telling me that he put 32 straight hours in then went home and slept 8 hours and returned for another 32 straight then slept for 8 hours then he put in 2- 12 hour days in. Wtf thats gotta suck on the body.

Personally I have no qualms about nuke power. It's a reality we will need to accept.

I'd be plenty happy with a reactor in my backyard.

Even better would be a big wind power generator, but beggars can't be choosers. Whatever happens, my home state needs more power, and now! Rolling brownouts are not acceptable in a modern first world country with a strong economy and a budget surplus...

Got a phone call this morning, they want a second interview tonight at 5 pm. Kinda of wired hours. Not sure if I'll take this position or not cause of the crazy 16hr days. What would you guys do if you knew that your unemployment is ruining out and this job cam up?  ??? ???

I'd hate it. But what's the alternative?

A regular paycheck shits all over unemployment benefits.

Mate I took a job working night shift at Maccas, and that's actually working out fine.

Well nothing. Unemployment runs out end of March. And there really isn't anything else out here. There is one option---- Schooling

Bullshit.  I hear people say that all the time, but there is plenty of work available, ya just got to do it.  I've washed down hog buildings, shoveled off roofs, cleared sidewalks, I even worked at a pizza joint to keep money coming in.  There is always work available if you want it.

Ya would think those jobs would be available, but the damn Mexicans have taken those jobs too. I have contacted the local farmers for milking, same-thing. I'm just looking for a 8-12 hr work week. I'll take any shift it doesn't matter to me, I need money coming in. The past year I have applied to more than 30 company's and only had 20 interviews.

There's truth in both of those.

Other than not having a life it's not all that bad. Around here it's top wage.

I was making $16.80 in 1985 then things slowed down and wages dropped to$12.90 and stayed there a few years before creeping back up. In 2004 was making $26.00 and i would like to say that i NEVER made TOO much money. Seems like i retired at the right time because, not only is wages down but not enough work/jobs and the jobs there are make you jump thru hoops and be glad to do it!!!

So is there any jobs in Arizonia? They let me go for no reason today. Oh we don't need you anymore see ya. :( WTF

Sorry to hear that.

Arizonas unemployment rate is over 10% and nearly as bad as Michigan.

Utah is much better and a offroaders dreamland for the most part. Just food for thought.

Is just one I am leaning on. I got a friend who works for them but hes in San Dieago. I love the weather there but not the crowds!  Utahians can shed more light on whats good in thier state I bet.

Also use this where you are at or in Utah or anywhere you might like to be.

 http://www.indeed.com/

Indeed.com is super easy to use and shows nearly all the jobs in an area. You can simply state keywords that relate to your line of work andthe location and even do miles from that locale with the advanced search.

Best of luck to yah.
