Title: Not letting cancer keep me down...
Post by: boltz2012 on May 02, 2009, 11:15:33 AM
OK, i know it has been a long time since i have been here and i have missed all of you. In December i was outside in the shop tinkering with some ideas and i got sick to my stomach. Everything got fuzzy and my chest and shoulder had sharp pain in it. Next thing i know I'm in an ambulance on my way to the hospital. I hear the medics talking about my pulse being very faint and weak. There is blood all over my shirt that i haven't a clue where it came from. When we arrive at the ER they tell me Ive had a heart attack. I ask about the blood and they tell me they are running some test because i have some funny looking spots in the back of my mouth. 2 days later they tell me i have lung and throat cancer. That at best i have a year to 18 months to live if i don't take treatments. It was a pretty low blow. My grandfather died last year from the same things. I watched him die and ill be damned if I'm gonna go through all that shit. If its time then I'm going out doing what i love. Smoking, fxxking, and Going Fast. And not in that particular order either. So I'm gonna finish what i started. I'm gonna finish this buggy for my youngest boy if its the last thing i do. So I'm back for now but don't know for how long. Later....

Thanx everyone.. im not gonna let it keep me down. But ive also made the clinical decision that im not gonna go through all the rad treatments either. I watched it kill my graandpa and im not going out like that for a few extra months. Im gonna keep doing what  im doing..Of course ill keep getting it looked at and the doctors will keep counting down my days on this planet but you know what...im not scared. Kinda like that old country song..live like you are dying. And that is what i plan on doing. So if you would ive posted a question about axles and i would like to know what you guys think.. Again thanx for your thought and prayers

i have given my boy something to cherish. He is gonna be a good man and a great father. My old man used to beat the hell outta me and i broke that cycle with him. Violence isnt the answer with our kids. I wish i could be half the man he is gonna be.

I knew you wouldnt hold out on me...sure is good to be back. This being sick crap sucks. But im feeling alot better now so who knows..I got the tranny brackets tacked into place and am gonna make the axles longer then bolt up the swing arms. Remember im gonna use a honda tranny instead of an RPM box. That way i get a diff and reverse... :) yes im still stuck on the idea that i can make it work so im just gonna go for it.

I have ive given it alot of thought to. Im gonna stick by my guns. I watched my dad fight heart disease for 10 years and live miserable..Then watched my grandpa fight cancer for 3 years and live miserable. Not gonna do it. What i am dealing with there are only about 10% of the people who have it that actually get into remission from chemo. Im just gonna bide my time. Put it in the mans hands and if its meant to be then so be it. Ive lived a good life and i can honestly look back and say there is nothing ive ever wanted to do that i didnt. Ive built and drove dragsters, boats, jet skis, jumped out of planes at 35000 feet, swam with sharks, loved several women and am with my soul mate now. Made lots of money, and been broke as hell. Everything but build this damn buggy. So you know what?...Thats what im gonna do next. Build something for my boy to enjoy for years to come. Its just the way its gonna be fellas. My ole lady has her mind made up that when im to sick to know who i am she will put me in the hospital and do what she wants. By then i wont really care. Its kinda like this...my old man and my grandpas dying words were that if they knew then what they knew at the time they both wouldve just let life take its course. Ive got to much pride to live several years like they did. I dont want my boy seeing me that way. Not trying to get anyone here to support me in my decision but maybe understand a little more about why ive made it. Thank you all for being my friend and for helping me stay insprired to build this thing that we all enjoy. Nothing makes us feel better then to ride down the trail past a bunch of guys on four wheelers and have them ask who built this beast of a machine we are riding and for us to answer.."i did"...So as a fella once said,...Let's "Git-R-Done"!!

Bolt, I lost my dad 4 yrs ago, and I have always told the ol lady the same thing, Id never do it, Id let nature run its course, In that 4 yrs I have seen some other miraculous people survive, I have had several second thoughts, And I have since had 2 children.. Thoughts are with you regardless..  "Git R Done"

I wont try to change your mind on your course of treatment, that is an intensely personal issue.

I can however respect / support your decision although it may differ from mine if faced with the same challenge.

So, what do you say we put that conversation aside?

Instead lets focus on getting your buggy done.  What is that you need?  What would help the most to ensure that goal is reached?

I know that many folks here would support that in whatever fashion they could, but we do need to know the starting point and what needs to be done to get you to the finish line.   I would think if we all pulled together it might make it a bit quicker/ faster build so you can enjoy it for a bit.

Let us know how to help?

Course, it will require a DTSFab.com flag........   ;D

It would have one regardless...And i think i have everything now. just got to get some positioning on things worked out. And thank you for your post. Ive been pretty sick as of late but am feeling a second wind. I started out here at DTS when she was just getting on her feet and felt it was a good place to be. Therefore i support this place and the people here. Ill always fly our flag.Right now i got to lower the tranny. Ive got it a bit to high and its putting the cv's at to much of an angle...so im gonna lower it a bit. Ive got the room seeing as how my tranny it 2 feet from the ground right now....Im gonna get a VIP slot as soon as i go back to work cuz i like to cuss and look at nudity curtosy of dentech of course..:)

Don't worry about it...We all agreed on it... As a gimp I'll tell you to eat lots of greens the anti - oxidents will do you wonders...give you more energy and feel better...Tonight is the ONE night every 2 weeks that I can drink...so I been whoopin it up... But I do know that the greens and beta-carrotin will help you yo feel better and give your body more power to fight the shit off...Any extra oxygen you can put into the system will make your body fight more...I logged with a guy whos father went down...when there was a holistic answer...but it came too late...I hate the fooker but will see if I can find him and the herbs that helped him... I can send some pickles...and beef jerky...might not help...But they are tastee and FAMOUS ;D

well...Made alot of progress in the last two days. Got the rear hubs mad..and tacked into place. Got the steering all worked out. Mounted the seats and trany and also cut and bent more tubing for the buggy. I was pretty sure i had everything but i dont. I tried to convert a small 5 gallon hydro fluid tank into a fuel tank. Didnt work out to well. Gas all over the place plus the pump wont mount up to it. So i gotta figure out something there. Didnt i hear someone say one time that this place somewhere sold a kit to put a Gsxr pump on a tank? About how much is a good price for a fuel tank on ebay? Going to sell my guns and bow today so i can get a few extra things here in town. Then im gonna get right back on it. Been up for three days straight working on it. kinda getting a little tired now so im gonna jump off here. Oh and bug did you get the question on the morse cables? If not i was just wondering where i could get some that were a good length. Thanks all

Here is some progress pics that i made tonight...Only thing im not digging about it is how wide the ass end came out being. 6ft. from outside tire to outeside tire. Good thing is that i doubt it will roll over. :) Let me know what you think. There is still alot more bracing that im gonna put on it. Just letting yall know before you point it out to me. The scooter in the picture is my baby. Im giving her up today. Scared to rider it. Dont want to get somewhaere and start having problems and be stuck out on that thing.

Not too certain about the requirements for this project aspect.....

Would something like this work?

The tank would work perfect Yummi. How much is it? And i think the fuel pump will work to. Ill have to ask bug or fabber if it would work in place of the stock GSXR fuel pump but it dont see why not. So how much for the both of them?

hmm...i think other than some morse cables i asked bug about the info on where i can get them i got it covered. Unless anyone knows where to get a guage cluster for a GSXR 600. I got one for a 1000 when i bought my motor but it was busted. I think i pretty much got it covered. Just some few lil odds and ends. I dont see myself going down anytime soon...although you never know...but i just dont see it. I plan on being on this earth as long as the man will let me. I just dont want everyone thinking that im punching my ticket next week or something. I know the clock is ticking. I just dont know how long it will count down for. So im just kinda winging it for now. I know sometime this summer i would like to get with you fabr and a few of the other cats and do a LS run. I only live about 5 hours away from there. Health permitting that is. So...I guess what im getting at is i really appreciate everything fellas.

Buggy is looking good Boltz.  Is that the Honda tranny that you already have mounted up?  Are the wheel/hubs/bearings going to accept the stock CV's once you get the axles lengthened?
Title: Re: Not letting cancer keep me down...
Post by: boltz2012 on May 05, 2009, 09:53:13 AM
Yes thats the honda tranny i have mounted up already. Dont have the bell housing cut off yet but i am gonna get to that. It doesnt have to be mounted like it is on a car. Meaning as heavy cuz it has no force applied to it. And yep..those axles will slide right in cus i cut the front hubs off a donor car and trimmed them down. Then cut the old units out of the swing arms and welded these in its place, So all should be good. The wheels are off a yamaha blaster. They have the same bolt pattern just smaller studs. I decided to drill the holes on the rim a hair bigger because i wanted to keep the beefier studs. I think it will work great. It will just give me a shiftable rear end is all. I can change the gear ratio at the wheels. But the big bono of it is ill have reverse and a differential.
Title: Re: Not letting cancer keep me down...
Post by: boltz2012 on May 05, 2009, 09:57:05 AM
I had to lower the tranny because i didnt like the angle the cvs were at. I want them to have very little angle at ride hight. Im kinda stoked about getting it going and putting it to the test. I want to see if the tranny will hold up cuz if it does it will be a cheap alternative to buying something like an RPM box. Not to knock them or anything as im sure they a great...i just dont have that kinda money.

yeah that wouldnt be good....ive tried to build the frame so that every aspect of a roll over would be as safe as i could make it. I look at roll overs like this. I know how i drive. Therefore i know its gonna happen. Just a matter of when. Im making my buggy as safe going down the road on the roof as it would be on the wheels. or at laest in my opinion. I know my boy will trolly roller over to. Like the silver colored bars on the sides. They ride about 3 inches away from deaed center of the side of the helmet. This way if it rolls the bar will be between the helmet and the ground. At first it prolly wont have nets on the sides...but i plan on getting them that will cover that whole area. Meaning the sopt you crawl into that starts about three inches before the steering wheel and goes all the way back to the silve bar. I figure if all that is net then there is nowhere for our arms from coming out. Im gonna skin the top with sheetmetal so im not worried about there either. What do you guys think? Sure the helmet may bump the bar ever now and then when riding on rough stuff but i think its a price worth paying. And if not ill chop it off and net the whole side.:)

yeah that wouldnt be good....ive tried to build the frame so that every aspect of a roll over would be as safe as i could make it.
Take it out.I broke my helmet in a crash when it hit the rollcage. Not needed at best ,at worst it'll get you hurt.

Regardless you DO NOT want your head/helmet impacting anything if it can be helped. He should remove the bar from alongside the head.
