Title: IF IT WERN'T FOR BAD LUCK I WOULD HAVE NO LUCK AT ALL
Post by: big dave on July 15, 2019, 07:16:59 AM
Well I had a little time last Friday evening. I decided it was time to test the newly rebuilt transaxle.  I loaded up the sand car and headed over to Syracuse sand dunes. now if you have ever been to Syracuse dune you know that it is a mile-long trail of nothing but WHOOPS leading in to the dunes. the best way I have found to smooth them out is pin it to the floor and hold on. I made my first run out and back everything went great. so I loaded up a rider and headed back out. this time it felt like the clutch was slipping. so I turned around headed back in. pining 3rd gear for comfort. then all hell broke loose. well 30 min of walking out of the dunes and the park attendants coming out with the tractor and I had it back on the trail

That sucks, too bad you didn't see before hand.  That bottom tube had been cracked for a while it looks, based on the rust.  You can fix it!

Cool that they have a tractor to pull you out.  As remote as that place is, I figured you would be all on your own.

YES appletree 3x3. looks like thy no longer make them. I have a PM into Nick mailoux (buggy barn fab) Now to order a replace set. I pretty sure he made them for appletree. he offers a tub set that is plated. thy should hold up. I got a good ten years from the old ones.

WELL ALL IS GOOD!!! Took the car for a run this weekend. drove it hard. aka 3rd gear wheelie!! Everything seem to be back to working order. no slipping in 3rd/4th. I did fine some junk in the slave cylinder.  that most have been my clutch problem all along.  :nw I'm ready to ride on sept 17th. I may just say the heck with it and come down the Sunday before.  Hair on fire hh: hh:

Fab. I was lucky that I change out the drivers arm as well. I could not see the cracks with it mounted in the car. Brain I was really relieved that the clutch was ok after all. I was not looking for word to pulling the motor.
