I have a lot of time and some races on my EPS system.  It is working fine and assists enough to keep me from fatiguing
yet still give good feedback.  I do not like charlyn setups, way to powerful and zero feedback.  Very twitchy setup.

The cars I have experience with these systems on are a-arm cars with good steering geometry. I am using a unit
out of a Vauxhall Corsa that cost me about $280-300 shipped if I recall.  I put it inline and eventually tore up a cheap
chinese steering rack that I got from Dans.  I switched to the pro-am unit from kartek and haven't had any problems
since.  Quite happy with the setup.

I'm running the electric but have no seat time with it .The thing i like is that if it fails there is no extra steering effort required than would necessary if there was no PS at all. It just reverts to manual with no added drag. People I know of have liked it tho.Mine is a unisteer Rhino unit.

maybe the Prius has electric steering since the engine isent used running around town, that would make a normal power steering pump pretty useless, and its not like the Prius is going to be short on battery power is it

The savings is from it not using any power to go straight. A pump still pulls some power.

Electric power steering can be found on the Acura NSX (which was the first production car with this feature), the Honda S2000, Toyota Prius and Toyota RAV4, plus numerous GM models including 2004-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, 2005-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt & Equinox, 2006-2009 Chevrolet HHR, 2005-2009 Pontiac G6 (except the Convertible, GTP and 2007 GT models), 2006-2009 Pontiac Torrent, 2007-2009 Pontiac G5, 2002-2009 Saturn VUE, and 2003-2008 Saturn ION.

This came from here, some pretty good info:

I've seen the malibu electric unit and I have been thinking about that one myself, it's not that bulky.

I have one of those. I have yet to get it to work. They require a bunch of handshake signals from other computers on the car and may not be able to be used as a standalone with out a lot of work by someone more electronically incline than I.

Thought I'd report on this unit
http://unisteer.com/utility_vehicle_parts/search_by_vehicle/yamaha_rhino/yamaha_rhino_power_steering_kit_-_electra-steer.html?keyword=ELECTRA+STEER
I'm happy as hell with it so far. At first I ran the car with it off . couldn't notice any extra drag. Actually car steered easily. Next day I turned it on. Hell I LOVE it. Except for when really needing assist you don't notice a thing but when you snag a lip or something it comes in really really handy. Just right  IMO for a 2000 pound car.
