Anyone have a clue of exactly when y'all wanna go to Idaho in 2017 ???
Our school starts 8/22 so if I can vote, I'd vote for 8/12-8/20.
-
I'm open to whatever I think.
-
those dates should work for us.
-
i know everyone is now included in the group conversation except big dave and budlight. sandracer1 is and needs everyone to put pressure on him to make the trip rofl rofl

ya sandracer i am that kind of guy LMAO LMAO
-
Sylvia and I are in,Unless the car is broke or i'm six feet under. violin
-
better chance the rail is broke rather than yours six feet under!!!!!!
-
I'm not picky, just let me know which day to be asleep on DS's couch when he gets home. rofl
-
anytime.... you can sit and stare at my crooked wall switch.....hell i think i may leave it just for that reason... LMAO LMAO sounds like a good excuse
-
set a date I will try . would love to go back.
-
you and kim?? i'm betting this new engine will impress you especially at st a dunes!
-
you and kim?? i'm betting this new engine will impress you especially at st a dunes!
ya I'm sure kim would be up for it. and I sure hope the new motor works like it should.
-
So back to this........... Are the dates decided at 8/12-8/20? I have something else I'm trying to plan around this...
-
I will be there in June for the summer again.
-
I will be there in June for the summer again.
WHen you leaving for the winter?
-
the dates listed by scottsmith are probably the only dates that will work for me. i am not sure or rather doubt i will be able to make an april spring trip with all that is to come in the first half of april. but looked like a thought of a may date. that may be doable but time will tell. i do want to make a st a trip this year so the sooner the date is set the better.
-
WHen you leaving for the winter?
I will probably come back in October again. I was watching the temperatures and when it got below 100 degrees in Yuma I came home.
-
well my rail is on hold for right now while i take care of family issues but i do plan on the st a trip so if these dates work say I?? i just purchased another add on for the rail for safety. it will be useful at ls as well. i called and talked to the tech's today about diff options and to make sure it will function on the bfg relay channel that fast, jerry, fabbr and budlight and all use.
https://www.ruggedradios.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1085_1173&products_id=2055 (https://www.ruggedradios.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1085_1173&products_id=2055)
-
Now,if we can get our shit together and turn the things on. AND I need to test out the new buggy radio and trouble shoot the old buggy.
-
before too long i will add a base unit to the th'er and i called the techs before i ordered to get some info on problems i have read about killing engines. like fast and jerry have experienced a time or two.
-
If you add a base, add an outside speaker to it otherwise it will be useless.
-
Don't expect much help from the techs.
-
normally i would agree but this tech actually was able to answer all my questions however i know service after the sale is always disappointing at most companies anymore and an external speaker is a good idea.
-
Wait till you have problems/ gremlins.
-
i'm going to hope for no gremlins rofl rofl
-
Hope springs eternal.

You two need to get put in time out? lol
I will do my best to be radio'd up for the St. A trip, at least helmet to helmet with my bro when we Brute.
So as far as the date goes..
I'd vote for 8/12-8/20 as well.
New motor, new brains to run it,
(not mine, mine are scrambled..) and mountains of sand!!
What could possible go badder?
I CANT WAIT!!!!
-
Guys,I may be opting out on this. Seriously considering going to Parker,Az around that time. I really want to get some hardpack running done. It's what I've built my stuff for. You all need to set some dates though. If I don't go to Az I can do whatever you decide.
-
8/12 thru 8/20 looks good to me.
fabbr i figured after i read your post

Actually thinking of about 6 weeks later but don't really have time for St.A and Parker. Mid to late October.
-
well i hope you make st a but i/we certainly can understand wanting to go to parker since that is what you pretty much built that rail for!!
-
Both are built for Parker/desert hardpack.. It's time.

NORTH
I'm so turned around out there I need to be called Wrong Way Feldman..............
-
I believe that would be Sand Hills Resort. Up side Very nice place to stay, down side way far from the lake. I alway liked it because all the little dunes got you primed for for the bigger dunes on the way out and let the adrenalin settle in the evening on the way back. Pack a lunch for sure and if by some unfortunate reason you had car trouble you could use the blm camp ground to pull to and then pull your trailer over and pick it up. (I'm Sorry) did I miss your name Saint Anthony Dune's?
-

Welcome Todd. I have stayed at SHR before, very nice place. Trees, grass, shade, nice site. Just farther from the big hills, as fast pointed out.
And yes, I am planning on going.

Sand hills is a lot nicer but too small for me to get my rig in. Honestly,I'd like to stay there and explore the smaller dunes. I don't know what it is but the big dunes just bore me. Ya,I know,I'm weird.

Why to small ? we get Doubles in all the time 45' MoHo with stackers we have some spots 80' + long
-
either that's a really old satellite map or you did a real good job erasing idaho rv lol so i think idaho rv was $45 per day for water and electricity. which is double what nebraska and oklahoma are. doesn't look like your rates are too much cheaper. there is a cave full of ice a few of the guys wanted to go explore.....is that close to your camp ground?

about 25-30 website is down can't look it up. We have 106 spots plus dry camping

Why to small ? we get Doubles in all the time 45' MoHo with stackers we have some spots 80' + long
I have 72 foot total length pulled - a crappy turning radius 1994 Kodiak 24 foot longggg wheelbase pulling a 45 foot trailer Absolutely cannot make the swing into a common width spot or make the turn from one row to the other without being able to make a wide swing. If the row isn't over 30 foot wide and the spot about the same I cannot make it. This rig was used to pull a jet dragster to the track originally so turning radius was never an issue. Honestly,I'd love to try SHR with the full hookups if you can assure me there is a pull thru place I can maneuver into and out of.
-
Hmmmmm, now that I ;look at it with Google Earth it looks like there are several that are no problem. It never looked like it when driving thru though. Hard to tell from the site map what the layout is though as the satellite pics look a lot different. I am getting a lot more interested after looking at GE. DO the big rv pull thru spots have sewer connections?
-
All pull thru lots are full hook up
I'll do some research on the lots for ya

Do u need the Hook ups for the Rig or Trailer ?
-
Just the toter unless I need to work on anything in the trailer. I only have 30 amp to the toter and just split the 50 when 50 is all that is available. No biggie. I usually just use one of the 110 outlets for the trailer unless the pedestal has both 50 and 30 plugs. I really want sewer hook up . Of course ,as I think you already know the other place doesn't have sewer for the big rigs. I LOVE my 30 minute hot showers using the tankless water heater and that fills the holding tank very quickly........ ;D ;D

I'd really appreciate that! Is there any way you might be able to grab a screenshot from Google Earth and highlight the prime spots for extra easy access?

8/12-8/20
Where we stay this year is up in the air yet..
I am fine with same as last trips location, but have no problem with checking out the BLM by the lake.

rofl ;D ;D
-
OK ,I'm modifying the topic title to reflect the date. Let me know if it changes for some reason.
-
If you all going on this date you better get your reservation in asap. Looking at the idaho dunes camp site map every weekend is full so we can not stay more then five days in any one of the spots. I rather imagine that the BLM site will be over flowing the week also. Was talking with the people we stayed on there place last year after we left the camp ground and they told us everything including the church parking lots are full. Unfortunately Sylvia and I will not make it this year. On the 17th of August we will be picking up our son Cary from the gates of hell that he has endured for the last twelve years. This is a date I nor Sylvia can not miss. I am going to try and come up late August after we get Cary re-entered into society for a bit.
-
Is there some event that week? If so,if I go,I'd prefer we planned on a less busy week. It's up to all others though. We need to pin this down guys.

I thought it was an event free week from earlier posts, but as you say, I would rather go when there is nothing going on!
Need. More. Data....
-
Same here. Less busy is better. Like having the place to ourselves :)

some how i just knew you would say something like this lol ;) ;) ;D
i will say what you told me of the rolling dunes in the direction of sand hills camp sound like a good run for day 1
-
Just strap extra fuel in back of car. Its what Razor guys do, works fine; most of the time. LOL
Or call me I will bring ya some fuel, 2-1/2 day wait. May be faster to walk out.
The BLM site best I remember no reservations, first come first serve? That would SUCK!. Theres a better route to sand hills w/o brush tree covered mtns. And avoid the lave rocks, I'm sure. We just never found it.

I 'think' I may have found a main trail when I ventured that way on the Brute, but was more interested in finding out what the mining operation was in the red hill to the North..
At least I found brother Don a rock for his fire pit during the adventure lol

It appears that the campsites are wide open for this week

very nice of you to do so and i'm sure he will be estatic to see his folks. however after 12 years he'll need some company for a couple to few weeks.
now theres really only 2 week span in aug i can take a full week off. and that's pretty much the only time of the year i can do so because of my job. scottsmith has been asking me for quite some time if anyone picked a date so i have posted the question if the 12th thru 20th work. so far everyone has said yes. he had to bid his vacation time and he picked those dates. so i will be going that week i plan on getting there that sat...aug 12th and will leave fri morning aug 18th and i will try and get the same site i got last time at idaho rv. i think it was site 32
fast it's a shame you can't go but i would like to make this trip a yearly trip so next year. i will see you at LS though.
-

My wife and kids will be coming to Idaho. looks like I will be renting a camper as well like last time so the family has some extra accommodations. I'm really excited! Hopefully this lays the groundwork down for Tammy to want me to upgrade to a nice toy hauler.

Oops, missed this post. Hope things have gotten better for you.I'm still deciding if I'm coming to St.A this year. I'm wanting to hit Parker a few weeks later but don't want to go by myself so,I probably will do St.A but will have to wait till a couple months away. I will definitely take you up on your offer though.

Little Sahara - UTAH
Anybody interested in going to this place AFTER St. Anthony? It's not really that far out of the way for you folks that head east to go home and it's pretty much right on the way home for me? Anybody ever been there before?

We went to Little Sahara Utah back in 2001. Stayed at sand mountain. That is one tall and steep hill. Lots of places to explore. You cannot go over some of the big hills like sand mountain, as it is huge rocks on the other side. We did find a way around the big hill and played in some of the small bowls on the back side, but they were sharp razors and hard to get around. Fun for a one time stop, not sure I would go back.
-
When I come back next yr, I'd like to hit them. DS bud, Scott lives in Salt Lake and I'm sure can give ya all the details. He said the 4 hrs to St A was way more fun.
Also want to hit Killpecker Wy, just N of Rock Springs just not crazy about the long dirt rd.

well tried to fire the engine off today. cannot get inj #3 or #4 to fire. sent a few emails so we'll see if the harness is pinned correctly or if the ecu has a problem. i sent it in to be upgraded for sequential injection and did find a bad solder joint he added so who knows. one thing i do know is this wesk guy from cali doesn't get in a hurry to do a damn thing. if it is the ecu and i have to ship it back that's 2 weeks min! i am hoping the harness needs re-pinned but i have my doubts. enemy helped me check the harness tonight to verify cont from inj to ecu connector. tuner studio has a feature to pulse the inj to check them.....it cannot pulse #3 or #4 but i did verify + at all 4 inj's. it tried to fire but 2 out of 4 just isn't enough go figure lol
-
well folks sorry to say but my st a trip is off. have to send ecu back to be repaired and i just know i will not get it back in time to finish tuning and final de bugging in time for the trip. i'll have to get a voucher/rain check from camp ground for next year.

Lance,
Last year when I left Idaho I made it just past Black Foot and tire was smoking from being drug down the road. I went and put a tire monitor on the trailer before I came up here. It tells you pressure and temp. It really works nice too. On the way up here I stopped for 2 weeks and when I started down the road it gave me a signal of a low tire so stopped and put air in it. I had a bad valve core. But it saves the tire. $ 200.00 is what I paid for it.
-
I did that over 5 years ago. I have all my tires monitored. Peace of mind!!
-
Well this one was definitely an adventure for all in attendance!! Lots of WICKED dunes. Nick and I put well over 100 miles on the Brutes in a couple days, but unfortunately his didn't want to run on the last day of riding.. Another chapter in the continuing saga of Gremlins running around messing with everybody's equipment! My gremlin decided that I didn't need to be able to shift my truck when leaving my cousin Shannons on the way to Idaho.. Got up in the morning, got settled in the seat, pulled the shifter to "Drive" and SNAP! Busted the aluminum shaft in the column that attaches to the trans cable.. BUT, it was in Drive range and I could move it to Neutral.... Down the road we go! The big passes were interesting, and had to crawl under the truck to put it in neutral at fuel stops but manageable.. THEN, 20 miles out of Rock Springs my fuel pump decided it had had enough and died on the interstate.. Grrr.. WEll, it had seen some use when I had my previous fueling woes, so blaming that on the failure. I will swap in my spare on the side of the interstate! Got that all done, keyed up, and NOTHING! My spare, fairly new pump would not spin... SHIT!! So after the old pump cooled off enough to touch it, I beat the piss out of it while hooked directly to the battery and it took off again.. Bolted it back in and it got us into Rock Springs and an Oreilly's that happen to have an aftermarket replacement.. A little parking lot mechanics and we are back down the road! Much better than on the interstate with 80mph fly-by's! Found a used column at a salvage yard in Idaho Falls and fixed my shifter at the dunes on Wednesday. Much more enjoyable drive home... UNTIL at a little shit hole fuel stop called "Point of Rocks", I noticed a few cords showing on the RT rear trailer tire... OK, swap it out... Nick got the jack out, slid it under the trailer and had a peculiar look on his face...
"Dude.... Your leaf spring hanger is almost busted off the frame...."
Well, nothing can be done here! Down the road we go! Got it back to my cousins over Laramie pass for the evening and decided it has been this way for quite a while by the looks of the cracks. Mild Redneck engineering could of made sure it went no further (or a welder) but was confident it would last the remaining 450 miles and thankfully it did!
Still a great trip with lots of awesome memories with a crew that I consider family.
Ready for the next adventure!!
Some pics of the climbs we did, we went to the dune fields on the North Side of the mountain called Juniper HP, very cool to look down on the dunes and ride sand that is like running across water it is so deep and fluffy! The Brute was porpoising like a boat on the stuff! No other tracks in site! I have some vids of the climbs as well.
-
ya heck of a trick and sand vw sorry i didn't hear the phone when you called for a ride. i was trying to figure something out and didn't hear it. all in all great trip ! the people make them great trips!

nothing spectacular but i went for rides with several cause mine just wasn't drivable. so this one is with steve a friend of scott smiths. the go pro kept slipping sideways. once on the dunes he was running 3rd 4th with a 4.57 r&p and similar 1st thru 4th as mine.

told enemy my rail was no fun with no bottom end grunt so he took mine out to see for himself and didn't run it long as he now knew what i was talking about. in the video you'll see he had to test my shocks first rofl rofl

This just must have been the trip for blowing tires! I also had a tire failure ( valve stem broke) passenger side tire right outside of gothenburg Ne. Made it home safely.
Amazing trip!!! Will try to get the parents to come out next time. When dad found out that he can fly into Idaho Falls... He said that the trip just got a lot more appealing (something to do with me driving the rig out and him flying in) We will see if i can twist his arm...

Ling-Long
I think I'm going to try a set of these this time. What do you think seven would cost?
-
oh hell ling long are tires!!? lol i thought you mis spelt that lmao
-
i started looking at 2" drop axles last night. i am going to have to either put wheel wells in or flip the axles. under the leaf spring is a 6" lift going to the 235 -16 wheels. i did find 2" drop axles online last night which would drop it to a 4m lift. short flip over extension on ramp door will solve that. on the other side of the block here is a dexter axle dealer. dexter doesnt offer 2" drop axles in his catalog. he was trying to eell me on torflex torsion axles
-
the reaon mine started to come apart is because somehow that leaf spring pivot siezed and wasnt letting the axle drop. when i jacked that side of the camper up the axle didnt drop! not until i pushed down on the wheel. so i have the bronze bushing and wet bolt kit on mine and greased it all again and no more issues on the way home. now i say this as you can clearly see with wheel off that the tire had rubbed on the floor and was melting the rubber cause there splatter. when i stopped you couldnt get a finger between the floor and top of tire. maybe a pinky finger.
-
oh hell ling long are tires!!? lol i thought you mis spelt that lmao
Well good, I aint the only one wondering if somebody put a roofie in Fabr's coffee!
-
Are we really that ruff on trailer tires? Shit if car/truck tires lasted like these things we'd have a diff reason to start WW3.
My trailer came stock w/bias ply tires. Suppose to help sway on hwy? WTF Those things looked like I shaved a Mohawk on them. Replaced with a tire, steel belted 10 ply 15", trailer. Forget name, but great reviews and of course foreign made.

pretty damn good pics for having taken them in the pitch black dark! that light on the ground around mine is from the led dome lights in installed.

Great pics!, I see some familiar mugshots.

Back to the tire issues:
Trailer tires, because they are abused by design, only last 5 years MAX! Yes, they can last longer, but when they grenade, they usually take out body, undercarriage, waste tanks.......ETC. After Steve arrived to St. A, I inspected all 6 of his trailer tires (Which he thought had all been replaced in the last 4 years), to find that 2 were dated 2010(1 of which came apart 1/2 way to St. A), 2 were 2013, and 2 were 2015, and his spare which should only be used as a spare, was original and dated 2008.
Moral of the story:
Check your tire dates!!!!! Don't risk damage, just replace the damn things before the destroy something else or ruin your trip! You can always sell your "used" trailer tires as someone will always need a spare.
