the good, the bad and the ugly on TRE's please...

Some don't work at all. Some do.

was planning on doing my own. just curious if its a noticable difference? poor idle quality? stuttering?

Do your own???

yea. each gear has a different resistance. by giving the ecu the 5th or 6th gear resistance ( which is what all your purchased tre's do) you effectively trick the ecu into thinking the bike is in 5th or 6th gear thus eliminating any retarded timing. but in doing so, it lowers your idle rpms. can be diffcult to star when engine is cold, or really hot.  so im doing mine with a switch. switch off, ecu reads the GPS (gear positioning sensor)..switch on, and ecu is reading 6th gear resistance.. easy as pie massa

I understand how and why they work but I was/am not aware of any changes to idle or starting problems. Where did you get that info?

gsxr forums

Are you doing it with a switch that you yourself control with your finger or a switch on the throttle cable? Say like on the throttle bodies near the cable connection lever? (If you have a place to mount a switch there?)

So when off the gas it would be "normaL" and start easy but on the gas it would switch over to the better timing curve for your buggy.

Then it would be automatic. Or would that cause issues switching each time you gassed it?

the norm, is to just use a toggle that you control. when i say cold engine..  i mean like on a 50degree day.

Only timing change that I'm aware of is at full advance. So far as  I know there's no change(at least on the gsxr1300) to the timing curve. Is there?

tre- timing retard eliminator, which means the timing must be retarded in those gears, and the eliminator advances the timing..  changing the timing curve....

Not according to what I've been told. It only limits full advance SFASIK.

Maybe we're both partially correct.

all i wanna know.. is will i see a noticable performance gain in 1st to 3rd gear? will i notice any rough idling? hard starting? is it worth the 10$ i spent today?

IMO ,yes.

You want to trick it into thinking it's in 5th gear though so you avoid the speed limiter of 6th gear..

Its worth $10 just for the rest of us to know.   ;D  It almost sounds to simple.

It IS simple. Sorta.

yea i got the 15,000 omh resistors i needed.  had to buy a 100 combo pack to get one resistor i need.  lame.  15,000omhs is 6th gear.  i dont need to worry about 6th gear limiter for my 600cc.

Oh ya. Forgot that. At Radio Shack you can buy any ohm you need in 5 packs.

yea i looked.. they didnt have 15K in 5 pack..  had to get the 100pk combo bullshit.

Really? What kind of RS you got? You in BFE or what? LOL!!!!

no. they had ten drawers with like 100 different ohms in each drawer, looked at everyone...  every size around 15k..lol its all good was only 7$ for the combo pack. came with a whole 5, 15k resistors.  lol

well spent an hour making my tre.. made it a plug in unit, no cutting wires, and with a switch..  truthfully, there is no difference from switch on or off.. maybe its just me.. an using my ohm meter, im getting 14,970 with switch on, which is considered correct...

also installed my dealer mode switch to read engine codes. my throttle position sensor is not centered, need to fix that!

Congrats, you just copied the ones that don't work. Seriously though, you aren't going to FEEL a thing. Pretty damn hard to tell a few degrees timing change by the seat of your pants. That's what dragstrips are for.

well it works though.. i verified that its working..  from what i was reading on the forums, i was expecting to feel something.. people said that 1st gear engine braking was almost null after tre install... feels the same to me.

i think im gonna test this deal out, but taking a new resistor- crimping mini spades on it, and sticking it directly on the ecu gps connector...  we'll see what happens.  every forums says that when tre is on that your idle will drop.
