subaru justy buggy
« on: August 02, 2009, 02:22:50 PM »
l was practically given a subaru justy and couldent resist taking it apart and biulding something else out of the bits,

you can find the first bit of the biuld up here
http://subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=2684
untill l can copy it over to here

so this is where l am at

as you can see l have started thinking about the shape of the tube work, but what l have drawn dosent really jump out and grab me, anyone else care to suggest a shape or draw onto the pic for me ?

I'm kinda biased, but a tin top Sammy shape would look pretty cool!  More squared off would also keep a roll-over from being a multiple roll over in many cases too....

For a bunch of money we can make that grave digger body come to life. ::) ;D ;D Be damn cool tho!

l do like the grave digger, nice looking bodyshell but not really suitable for the woods, can you imagine the damage it would sustain bouncing of the trees  :o
the same applys to this body l have

shame really since its the same wheelbase as the buggy ;D but fitting something with a full body limits the use a bit unless you are going to trash it,
same applies to the sammy body idea it will get hung up on the trees, l think l ought to keep the tube work as small as possible so as to lessen the chances of it catching on branches etc ?
dont get me wrong l like sammys l got a few now :-[ like 3 lwb and 3 swb  ::)
do you get jimnys over there like this one

next generation sammy l supose, we had some fun out of that one, coil springs all round much more civalised

I'm not saying the whole body, just the shape.  The width would be the same as any other design, just instead of the regular buggy shape, it would be more square, gives you more space out back too.

And no, we don't have the Jimny's, here anyway.  Are they solid front axle factory?  I think the last Suzuki's here with solid fronts were the 80's Sammy's.  I could be wrong though.

Funny, I just noticed the other one rolled on its side in the second pic!

hi Islander

yes they are solid front axle,  coil springs and a radius arm at all 4 corners , they are very good offroad which l put down to the light wieght as the axle travel is not great in stock form, the green one was mine till l end over ended it and wrecked the body shell,  l still have the chassis  which can be seen hanging on the wall in the pics taken in my workshop, one day l will put it all back together in to some sort of tube buggy  using a side kick 2000cc engiine and auto box

not very flexy as they come but still good offroad

we would never get away with towing a trailer like that over here, max towable wieght is 700kg l think
l still have my diesel tracker for getting around the fields, very good for that
but throw a tool box in the back and its full and over loaded  ;D

l have replaced the girl friends swb petrol tracker witha lwb 4 door turbo diesel, the engine is a mazda unit that suzuki fitted for a few years to the lwb auto's, l wouldent have spoken very highly of the mazda powered tracker untill we had this one  :-[ how wrong you can be, l am very impressed with it, you live and learn dont you

Back to the buggy, Justy buggy, Juggy, whatever  ;D What are you using for the suspension?  The Justy stuff?  I can't really tell from the pics.  And are you planning a rear mount rad?
