frame bracing
« on: May 22, 2012, 06:40:08 PM »
Double A-arm rear susp w/3rd lower arm.  Non plunge cv's.
Black frame tubes 1-1/4
Red A-arm tube 1-1/4
Yellow plate

In order to keep cv center with arm center as to have no plunge, I need to notch frame tube.  Any concerns with what I've drawn other than crappy ass paint drawing.  Plate is top and bottom side with rossette welds and welded edges.

CVs dont have to be "center" with arm center.
They can be offset, but the offset has to be the same inner and outer.
The shaft has to be the same or the average of the two arm lengths.
Just think of the shaft as another link or arm in the suspension.

Built wheel side carriers first. Mount holes on wheel side are centered with ford cv so inside needs to also.

I'd plate the entire length, lighten with holes and dimple if you have dimple dies.

Forget the dimple dies since I now see you will plate both sides. Still drill holes for tubes welded between the plates to reduce any flex and make a very rigid "beam".

Got it.Easier to do frame side first. Then compensate with the wheel side.

Wont be the first time I've remade parts.  Just trying to slow down the redo.  I almost just bent the tubes for the shape, but bender wouldn't make 2nd bend turning back as close as I needed it.  I got a plan now!
