Tires and Wheels?
« on: June 24, 2011, 04:54:26 PM »
I need options for the Barracuda. I'll be running 4x136 on the front and 5x4.5 on the rear. Is there any chance to find matching wheels or am I going to be mixing and matching.

I like this tire/wheel combo more than the ATV combo that is common since I will be running high desert terrain.

Any ideas what sizes I should be looking for and where I should start looking?

Thanks!

The thing is, he's running over 200 HP with the Busa so I'm not sure I will have enough horse power to push them with a 1000cc engine. I think they are 30" tires.

Also, what backspacing is needed for the cuda?

With proper gearing you can do it.

What he said....

I have heavy 26" Bighorns on my buggy.  Little Raptor 660 motor..  Turns them PLENTY fine with 12/60 and 13/60 sprockets..  (Way more than I thought, but like Mastr said, its in the gearing!)

That begs the question:  Does anyone want to post how to figure overall gearing? I don't have time right now. thumb down Too much  bs1 going on.

Hmm. what do you mean?

The simple:   60tooth rear, 15tooth front = 4:1 gearing (divide rear by front)

There is a site, cant find it now, but it had a conversion program for rears.  i.e. on my F150 I had 31" tires, wanted to go to 35", so I plug in tire size and original gears (3.75) and it spits out the new gears to maintain the original torque that it had with the 31's, but now turning 35's.  (btw, that new number was 4.12 so 4.11's would work fine).

Wish I could find that site, because I am no mathematician LOL

I used to know this by heart... But too much else on my mind
You need to figure the transmission or CVT ratio into this equasion
You need to be around 10 to 1 to get the buggy moving from a dead stop... I can't remember the formula for tire rollout ...nevermind...back to the garden I go
Ifd your trying to stay in the stock gearing range...that's easyfigure the stock tire rollout in feet per revolution the re calculate the sprocket ratio's to match
example if your tire went up 20% and you were running a 20/60 ratio...you would either drop the front to a 18 or raise the rear to a 72...Now these are just ballpark figures...not fine tuning There are some other factors as well...such as tire footprint grip etc. added footprint, and carcass weight mean you have to accomodate for the added drag and gear steeper
Keep in mind on a buggy you need to be able to break the tires loose at will to give yourself the ability to throw it into turns and not have it want to push

Is it possible to find 5x4.5 pattern on ATV/UTV wheels? I'm having a hard time finding wheel options other than 15" wheels which will pretty much force me to run 30" tires. Is anyone else running 5x4.5 rear wheels on the cuda? Where did you get wheels and what are you running?

Don't know what size you are looking for on the rear?  this works out to be a 28" (27.7") with 8.4" width set up as the 30" seems to be an issue?

Found this in a matching set - well, same 15" x 7" one pair on amazon new - one at summit new and same style without changing hubs. (one set 5 x 4.5 x 15 and one set 4 x 136 x 15")  there are likely others, this was the first I found......

American Racing may be able to tell you what styles they have in both hub sizes to match.

4.5" is real close to 115mm 1/2 a mm small.  They might work, but mights are on a chickens butt.  115 pattern is used on Artic cat and on rear banshee and raptor.  Find a bud with one you can try before you order.

Then you can p/u some 14" utv wheels: http://www.mud-throwers.com/inc/sdetail/1011/10382
or
http://www.mud-throwers.com/inc/sdetail/1011/21687

then mount up what ever 14" tire you like.  avt utv or drag slicks/  ;D
You can keep your CHANGE, I'd like to keep my DOLLAR.

Only .028" diameter difference. Bet it would work fine. ???

No, 4 on 115 wheels won't fit on 5 on 4.5 pattern. Sorry.

I can get UTV wheels in 5 on 4.5 and in 4 on 136. I can get you a matched set of wheels in 12s or 14s.
