Truck Charging system to Camper Batteries

Any opinions on what is the best way to get this accomplished? I have a 97 F250 powerstroke (2 batteries) and I want to use its charging system to charge the battery bank in the shack when Im going down the road. I know there is 12 volt acc at the rear plug. Do I have to run an isolator there or at the batteries under the hood?

Could I just run a one way diode at the plug and tie it into the battery banks +? (CHEAP!)

 ....I effin hate charging system stuff....Any input appreciated!!

The charging system will never know  there are more batteries being charged so long as they are also 12V and wired in parallel as the truck batteries are now. The alternator/regulator knows nothing about how many batteries are in the bank. The regulator just senses combined voltage. No need to do anything other than KISS. ;) ;D ;D   Doing it simple also will charge all batteries to full charge. Using isolators and such will not allow that.

Only reason for isolators/diodes is to prevent simultaneous discharge of truck and trailer when not charging  leaving you without any back juice to start truck if you are inverting from all batteries. Not good. If you don't invert AC unless unhooked from truck there is absolutely no need for isolator/diode.Save your money,unhook truck from trailer wiring while camping.

What about solar panel? mount it right on the trailer. Just a thought

I always install a relay to kill the power to the plug when you turn the key off.  That coupled with a resetting breaker will allow you to charge the trailer anytime the truck is running and prevent draining when the truck is off.  The breaker will prevent backfeeding and toasting the wires on startup if the truck battery does go low. Like when you leave the domelight on....

Off topic just a bit. Bought me a new 2012 Polaris Razor. And I see there's another spot under the drivers side seat for a second battery. If I want to have this battery for my winch,and axillary lights how do I charge the battery but keep it from drawing it from the main battery?  ???

Why not just a relay between the + of the two batteries  large enough for the amp of the charging system activated by something in the run posistion of the key.  Aux lights, stereo, ?? to second battery.

how often do you plan on using the wench? why not just install a larger batt with double the cranking amps? you might want to find out what the system is putting out first or just not venture down the roads where your are guaranteed to get stuck. lol  start with what the system is putting out then go from there. if nothing else install a disconnect to the aux batt.

Why not just do it right ? Something like this dual battery isolator. Why reinvent the very successful wheel ? These things have been around for a very long time. Readily available from many,many sources. Here's just an example.

BTW,enemy never asked about using a winch. We're a bit off track. Enemy asked how to charge the trailer battery whilst going down the road and yet preventing discharge of tow vehicle battery when camped and hooked to truck. The battery isolator does all that automatically. No need to remember to do a thing especially after the rum breaks out. LOL!!!!!.
