Sweet PS Servos
« on: September 18, 2017, 08:09:14 PM »
Most here are mini buggy guys but there are a few full size car members I think so I thought I'd throw this out here. I have little experience with Sweet PS servos . I have a .250 servo on a 2.0 Howe R&P. It feels heavy and I know I need to change to a smaller torsion servo. The question I have is how much smaller. I have nothing to judge the amount of steering feel change I might expect. The .250 is a "medium" feel . I can find very little to go by on the net. Can anyone give me an idea how much less steering effort I might feel with going 1,2 or 3 sizes smaller?

Its on internet so must be true: LOL

There is no difference in the turning ratio among control valves. The feel, or the amount of force it takes to turn the steering wheel, changes between them based on the torsion size. The lower the number, the easier your car will steer. For example the 0.185 control valve requires less steering effort than the 0.250 control valve.

Most sand rails, dune buggies, and baja bugs will use around a 0.200 to 0.210 torsion. Race cars, trophy trucks, and desert racing usually prefer a heavier torsion around 0.250

Ya,I know all that but it still gives no point of reference as to how much different the feel.  At $300 a pop to try it would be nice to have some idea. A heavy feel is bad enough but too light is a lot worse.  The .250 I have would be just right on hardpack maybe but at low speeds or plowing through sand it's gonna not be good. I was thinking of just trying a .200 but was looking for some opinions as too just how much lighter feel I might expect from doing so. I guess it's just a try it and see thing since it is all about what the driver likes.

I called Sweet. They gave me some idea of what is generally used as a starting poing. Got one on the way. They said, and I agree, this is a very subjective thing. What one guy likes another may hate.
