My goal is to be done sometime in feb. I will run it for the rest of the season, then tear it apart for paint and powdercoating.

Do you have a new date now that you can walk on your knee?

Here are some recent pics. I get 18" out of the rear with 2" of ground clearance at full bump and 20" out of the front with 8" of ground clearance.

Looks like it is turning out real well!  I like the way you put the outer trailing arm heim in double shear.   :)

I have been meaning to ask you what happened to your R-1 car.  I saw you sold the motors.  Did you part it out?  I am just starting a build, R-1, 5-link, etc.  Similar to what yours was.  Do you have any tips or pointers of what not to do, or what you didn't like?

Nice job!

I scrapped the r1 car. I kept some parts, traded the frame for tabs and waterjetting and sold a bunch of stuff I didnt need. If you need any advise feel free to ask me. I learned many things the hard way. The only thing I didnt like was no reverse or diff. Instead of buying a jeffco I just built a new car. It would have cost more to do the jeffco and turbo for my old car than what it will cost to complete my new car.

Here are a few more of the double shear.

That is a sweet way of doing that.  I never would have thought of that tube over a tube.  And the frame gusset with it all flush to the outside.  You must have had that planned when you formed the frame rail in.  You mentioned somewhere that someone had bent their trailing arm attachment crossmember.  I would put money on the setup you have now not bending!  :)

Sorry to hear the R-1 car didn't work out for you.  I am anxious to hear how you like the Subaru / bus setup.

I planed it from the start. I think I am going to drill a couple holes in the gusset and tie them together with tube for looks. The person I knew bent his tube on the inside pivot and I have 2 friends who have sheared the outside bolt off. Thet were running a 5/8 bolt in single shear. I have a 3/4 in double. I dont think mine will break.
