I/m going to put this out in a new topic so we dont muddy up someone elses thred. Been talking to a few guys on fall trip time, just seeing whats going to work best. Looks like OK schools are out from Oct 13-28, two weeks so prob dont want to go then.
The first week of Oct 1-6 work great for me as schools out here. Any other dates work/dont work for you guys?
Who's gonna try and make this one?
-
I'll be there. Just set a date.
-
I'm flexible on the dates. Just work it out with some of the others. Just will not be here after the second week of November. I'll be In California at Out Front getting tuned on his dyno for e-85 and at Glamis for Veterans Day Nov the 11th. Don't know why I a wanting e-85 just read that they are closing eleven plants because of low crop yields and smaller demand. O well I'll buy straight eternal and mix my own 91 with it to make e-85. Got a plant just north west of me about twenty miles.
-
And Sandfest is Sept 13-16.
-
Looks like first week Oct it is!! 1st-6th. Or when ever u can get down. I should be there on sun the 30th. I can't wait although I may need more time.
-
it looks like that is the only week that will work for me as long as I get the rail done!! ;)
-
doc said no fall offroad trip. but he did not say anythihg about atrip in mama car i might need a road trip

rofl drowning rofl I'm so far behind I'm think i'll start over cause that looks closer. I quit spending, I thought, to complete electrical. While I did hear this thing run breifly, not sure on other possible issues. Another day or so and it should be good. Then to fab a shifter, plumbing, and go pedal! I've not touched the trailer since I bought it and may not get too.
-
carl bring the a/c unit and breaker box + wiring to the dunes and we'll help you THROW it in on the spot!! lol I am going to start the wiring tonight then I got plumbing and throw the rear end back on. I haven't put the rear end back on yet cause it's easier to get to the wiring w/o it on and in my way. carl I have touched my trailer since I got it back from the dealer either LMAO it just sits in front of my house! lol haven't heard from my seat guy and I can's set pedals till I get them bolted in but I hope to have those yet this week or first of next. may not have side panels or hood for this trip but I am going to try hard to get those on to help keep the roosts off!! rofl rofl

Still a non running buggy with no axles. Been living with the rail on my days off. Spent a day and a half to find that my axles are to short, and the bood flanges were binding my axle, cvs limiting my travel. Can you say parts ordered! Hope for running motor this weekend. Axles next weekend, bet they dont get here till then. Somewhere I need to do a ball joint in my truck.
-
One week to go. So who's ready and who's 90%.
carl is 110% ready, buggy is 95% rofl drowning rofl

is there a burn ban in effect at ls?
-
According to this map, yes. :'(
http://www.forestry.ok.gov/burn-ban-information/ (http://www.forestry.ok.gov/burn-ban-information/)
Although there will be 3-4 days of possible rain this week. But looks like I can skip the fire starting stuff?
-
Call the firewood guy,Clark@ (580) 824-6628. I think that's the right number.

Call the firewood guy,Clark@ (580) 824-6628. I think that's the right number.
Just got word from the fire wood guy AKA Clark. Burn ban still on. Power's to be have not been out side to see the flooding in the streets as yet.
-
I am going to try and head down mon and will probably bring some with me anyway. how much rain did they get?
fabbr I forgot to order an extra non plunge cv, you bringing yours?
-
My plans are all skewed. Don't know which days or when I'll get there. Effin' madhouse here since I finally got back from Fla..
-
Georgia is here! Burn ban still on according to ranger signs but is ok according to the 3 fires around us. Didn't make til dusk but the girls rode the quads out in dark. Hope to finish a few things in morn and have drove by lunch. Wish everyone could make it and hopeing for a good trip for those that can. Little ruff sand so a tad of wind while we sleep would be nice.
-
happy to hear you made it,hope all go's well, enjoy the time  rofl
-
I may only make it for a day trip........................too much shit going on here. Can't even see the tunnel let alone the light.

Welllllllll, how was it today? Everything went well I hope.

Woohoo!! Im officially on vacation!!!!
Sounds like all is going really good. DS made it down there around 5 and went right to work supervising Carl finish his car....State Worker style! rofl
Im loaded up and gunna roll out of Whooville in the very early AM. I think DS is patiently waiting for my computer and software to tune on his car!
A few pics already blowing up my phone.
Lots of camera equipment going down with me so hope to have a good stack of digital eye-candy next week!

??? , huh?

had a great time and the only ones that made it were carl and his family and enemy and myself and the miss's!
good weather all in all. I have a few adjustments to make but all good. I didn't realize I had to down load info off site to use my bazzaz but thank god enemy had it and a BIG thanks to enemy for running and tunning the electronics for me, what a world of diff that makes!! carl needs a couple cv boots and flanges and no-one down there carries high angle boots so guys if your going and need more than 24 degrees bring your own!! carl can add to that with his trip to stewarts. lifted the burn ban last night there so we had 2 campfires and 1 of which was after the ban. had to learn to drive all over again but still getting used to it. enemy we will have better rides on the spring trip!! here's some pics for now. forgot the batt charger for the camera so I had to take these with my cell phone. there's one of my wife eating breakfast as well. enemy... awsome job as usual and fantasic work on the camper!!! carl you have built the widest rail I have ever seen and damn I really think we could fit 4 guys in the bench seat!!!! lol I know all 3 of us fit fine. great trip and great guys so always a great time!!
btw anyone ever checked there cv's for temps? the f150 outter on mine hit 170 f and non plunge 930's inners hit 145 f. going to have to get the stock box grease out of the f150 outters and some good grease in and might buy a set of 930 stubs and 3 more non plunge. I am not liking the f150 outer cv at this time and really not liking cv's period after 1 of mine slung grease!! 1350 uj's are still a preference imo.
-
more pics

i turned my last bolt sun before I loaded the rail and left. that is not the way to do it!! lol wish I woulda had more time to test and tune but I did get the bigger steering wheel on before I left cause after 2 pass's through the field out back I could tell that the 10.5" steering wheel wasn't going to be enough for the cutting tires!! lol lol had to make a 3 to 6 bolt adaptor quickly before I loaded it. enemy and I swapped front tires for a bit. I like his and can see the benifit at higher speed in the sand but at lower speeds they didn't cut hard enough for my rail. once they dig in though they cut harder than my cutting tires and don't grab ruts and drive themselves too. I wonder how a triple ridge handles compared to a single ridge cutting tire? anyone used both yet?
I am running 2 20" double rigid ind led bars on top and 1 china 6" on bottom. the 20's are awesome but need some adjustment but I still can't see well enough to lead at night. enemy makes one HELL of a leader at night!!!!!!!!!!! well until he gets his boost kicks in and leaves us all in the dust rofl rofl rofl rofl
I need 2 more lights pointing out like enemy's rail and then I can see well enough to play on the side hilll a little on my own at night but following enemy on the side hill was a blast!! will be more fun when I get the shocks dialed in.
-
Triple razors are much better . I've never had any issues with cv boots or slinging any grease from them. No reason for that happening.
-
the reason for the slinging grease was probably my fault on the clamps but do they normally run that hot? i don't like the f150 outters because they are not easy to take apart. the non plunge cv's with the non plunge axle is interesting. I have less than 1/8" plunge and they do tq lock on the splines then release when you hit a bump and slam into the clip and in my case until i adjusted my rods out they nailed the clip and banged like a trans blowing up!!! what a noise. I have a cure for that. the heat concerns me though cause I have never seen a uj get that hot ever. another thing is the play in the spline and cv is odd as well. you can feel it in the rail when you acc and decell or on and off the throttle it's kind of a bounce back effect. I know I hear and feel things most don't but still concerning and makes me wonder how they don't break more often, I can only imagine what a plunging cv is like. I do believe I will add a set of tabs to my rear end to go uj's and keep the cv's as back ups. the center section I used turned out ok after a crap ton of mods but did fine. had to adjust a chain twice but only 1/2 turn of the tie rod each time then 2 more days of riding and didn't move again but not once when I stopped and jumped out to feel it was it more than luke warm and 108 links. not having reverse really sucked as well so that will have to come this winter when I get time. I have a lot of other things on the list first and have to get the toy hauler back in for more warranty work after this trip not to meantion need 2 more stabilizer jacks since I found a parking lot that was to big of a drop on the way out!! thumb down rofl rofl
I did see a nice truck on the way into alva and really thought about looking at it. here's a pic.
wonder if anyone has ever tracked the heat of cv's? that damn grease is just a mess and i am sooooooooooooooooooooooo sick of sticking my hands in it!! I only had one boot slinging grease then got it tightened up and the last day the other inboard one started on me so I just gave up. stinks when it hits the tail pipe lol
-
I had a lot of fun blinding folks with the led's too ;D ;D and only got flipped off by 3 quad guys one night and probably not a nice thing to do to them but damn funny!!! rofl rofl rofl rofl they could see the dunes damn well though and knew we were parked there in the dark!! rofl rofl
-
also I did have a chance to check voltage, with all my lights on and then engine at idle and the rad fan 16" and stock busa rad fan mounted on the the oill cooler I was down to 12.2 volts with the rickselectric 40 amp rec reg. never had a batt issue nor did the light pull down while starting the engine with them on. running an optima red. I have the fans set to come on at 170 and it cycles on and off very well. the oil cooler is on a switch cause i didn't know how the charging system would turn out and figured I might need it off for night rides. I think I will add to round led by rigid where enemy has his 6" in his hood for some cross light on the side hills at night.
also need to mod the toyhauler cause I had to pull the back 2 jackknife couchs out to get the rail in with paddles on it.
-
carl needs to finish his exhaust cause when he blew by the wife and I and I do mean blew by ;D he cracked that throttle and damn thing actually made us both jump in our seats!! LMAO LMAO
it's surprisingly quiet at idle and up to a certain rpm but holy crap after that!! hell it's quieter than mine with exhaust but the panel rattles in mine are almost louder than the damn exhaust!!! I will be lining those this winter and adding about 8 more tabs on each side too. that crap is no good and my tip stops half way under the wing truck and echo's so there will be some padding inside that as well. also going to build a hood with storage, enemy did a fantastic job and damn handy thing to have!!
-

IMO , the link suspension is deflecting way more than an arm style suspension, causing the cv's to see greatly increased loads when binding (due to now needing unavailable plunge),creating heat. My 930 non plunging cv's run cool enough to put your hands comfortably immediately after stopping no matter how long or hard I run. Did Carl's cv's run that hot? There should not be any driveline oscillations felt with cv's. If so ,there is something seriously wrong .
-
on my rail the outer's which are stock f150 outers ran hotter to the point you coldn't hold your hand on them for more than a second or two. the iners which are the non plunge 930's ran hot but you could hold you hand on them but still got very warm. now carls cv's were opposite when I checked his with the temp gun, his 930 was hotter. I know good grease will help and I didn't take the time to clean out the stock grease they came with the f150's that is on the 930's i used good cv grease. I can see the link susp flexing but not enough to create what i'm talking about. i have never seen a uj drive have the kind of play back and forth the cv have. when you jack it off the ground jerk the wheel back and forth look at the play in the cv's and splines on the axle. it is a lot more than a uj or atleast any uj i have ever built. now I started with 3/4" available plunge and wound up adjusting the rods out to only 3/8" available plunge and that stopped the banging. the axle has clips on both ends and it is possible the axle was hitting the f150 cv wheel side but noooo way it was hitting the cup on the 930 sprocket side with 1" spacers on the cv cups. before I adjusted the rods out you had to throw the axle all of the 3/4" to make it bang off the ground. also noticed that even sitting still the axles won't plunge until you roll the wheel back a hair or jack them off the ground and the axle would release and plunge freely so freely they slide back down on there own. that little bit of tension was enough to keep the splines from sliding on both mine and carls and mean locked to the point both hands you can't make it plunge!!
-
fabbr do you have clips on both sides of the cv's?
-
Even after no seat time and working on rail for first two days we had a blast. Rail did good but I e got a list of things to change or fix. I couldn't believe no one had a 930 over cv boot? Wtf. I didn't run cv boot flanges on inner cv and bolts pinched boot til it tore. I will fix that. My cv's were hot. Not burn hot but warm. But I didn't hear the noise on mine. Could have been open exhaust. Lol. I only ran clips on inner cv's. drove straight thru to home, 18hr short nap dinner for Candice's birthday and now for bed!!!! Wish more could have made trip cause u can't have too many supervisors while you work. Lol
Thanks for help everyone and all in all a good trip!!
-
that 12r is one hell of a motor!! that will be one running sob in the spring and was this week as well. nice wheelie too!!
also yours had the same tq lock on the splines on the axles as well sitting still with a slight amount of pressure. also I know the higher the angle the more heat they build and at full droop I am at 36 degrees so that could be another piece of the puzzle on the heat as well.
-
carl did one hell of a job getting that rail zipped up and running btw!! i was impressed.
-
fabbr do you have clips on both sides of the cv's?
2 clips, one on each end ,outside of star. Splines are free to slip. Gives about 3/8" plunge if needed to allow for small deflection.

Glad you guys had a good time. Just too many things effed up my plans this time. Be there in the spring tho!!!!
-
the sand was really soft like baby powder and damn smooth in many spots. the night got damn cold too!! great riding though
-
I'm beginning to dislike soft sand. It's like driving through a big bowl of grits. rofl Starting to like hardpack much better. 8)
-
Cv's did lock, roll just a tad and axle would plunge. I had set at about 3/8" plunge. I was happy with rails performance and it needs tuning BAD! Time to fix and update and get to work on trailer mods! And everyone should get a home theater with a 100" screen to wath vids on! Lol thanks Enemy.
-
ya enemy's drive in theater screen was incredible!!!!!!
soft sand robs a lot of power and i got buried quick in one spot so bad I really didn't know if enemy myself and my wife were going to be able to get the rears out but we got it!!!! lol lol carl got his stuck once too but got it free before we got to him but he had plenty of light to see what he was doing lol

dsrace's car looks pretty tough and carls is a hell of a jump over the little green monster I hear carl that zx really rips.

How could you not like carving through soft smooth powder??
-
I like the precision there is on hardpack compared to the "wake boarding" through the soft stuff to be honest.
-
Hot damn! Where to begin!
That was a great trip. I got down there just in time to see Carl's car go for its maiden voyage. The guy drives 18 hours with an unfinished rail and was tearing up the sand a day later! Even pulling off a few wheelies with the family (got vid!). The 12r motors have always impressed me in the bike, and in Carl's "Double-wide" ;D it is going to be very wicked when he gets it dialed in. I think 5 people could fit across that seat (somewhat) comfortably! A few more refreshments that one evening, and I do believe we would have tried it rofl
Awesome job man can't wait to see it completed!
DS knocked out yet another BAD ASS car burning the midnight oil the last few weeks. Ya gunna keep this one??!! ;D A couple more tweaks on the shocks and I think you got it spot on! ...Reminds me to get you the info on my rear valving. My rear suspension will sling shot yer ass to the moon if your not careful! Wow that was an uneasy feeling through the whoops. I got some good footage of both our cars running through that section I will post up to see what others think of our idea on my valving. I'm a bit dyslexic on that valving shit ???
Have to give the Bazazz Z-fi and AFM Auto-Tune system a big friggin thumbs up. DS let me borrow his AFM and use it on my car a couple months back. I already had a very good base map built from manual entries and road logging, but the Auto-tune improved on it 10 times over. We had a base map dialed in within a couple minutes on DS's Busa, and after a few trips out in the dunes a completed map that runs awesome in all driving conditions. Very impressed.
Got some pics and lots of vid to go through yet!(this includes vid of DS stuck on a peak heh)
Carl's Maiden Voyage!

rofl rofl ya it could use boost
I wish I had swapped tires with carl to try those 1100's just to see what they were like. these 1300 sand viper paddles aren't right for this rail either so we'll have to get a new set this winter.

Little cool first night since I forgot heater, LMAO rofl LMAO. But nothing a 3am text to DS didn't fix. I think he was already up. 10-20 mph winds, not too bad but they kept sand almost perfect. Even an afternoon trip you could ride in untouched sand. Havn't been able to find pics we took, not sure if they got deleted off camera or what? But was some great times, next one will be better. More riden of buggy, less riden toolbox. I hope. :-X
