Wraps
« on: November 22, 2010, 09:15:09 PM »
I know very little about auto body wraps. The kind of super decals printed with super high resolution detail almost photo quality. I'm wndering how durable they could be in the sand and if there is anything that can be done to add to the durability? I know there are temporary and permanent films and various degrees of both. I assume the permanent kind  but am wondering if it will just blast loose and have loose edges or can I do an anti chip coating like for auto paints over a wrap maybe in needed areas maybe? Anyone have any experience in wraps? I like the idea of being able to have an exotic "paint?' yet ability to have an exact copy if needed later printed off.

I had a 14' delivery truck done, both sides and back rollup door.  Full color with furniture and people, $2200 installed.  About 5yrs still looks good.  No sand blasting just whipping with tree limbs.  They do offer a clear to go over for extra.

There is a gentleman I know here in town that owns a company called First Class Signs.  He had me do some CAD work for him a couple of months ago, and for repayment he is making the vinyl wrap for my buggy.  I am doing most of the leg work, sizing, graphics, etc... He is going to print it and cut it out.  I know they do offer a clear vinyl, but I don't know how much extra it is.  I'll be stopping over there first thing in the morning so I'll be sure to ask.  I know he does exceptional work, and might be interested in doing more wraps for buggies.  His prices are hard to beat too. ;)
See you all duneside.😎🤙

here are some pics of a buggy that has been wrapped. I know this isn't pricing and I don't even know who did it for rob and he doesn't own this rail anymore but did ride ls. he never had any issues with the wrap that I know of.

We did a wrap for travis (the wounded soldier) when we built his car and it has held up for 2 long hard seasons. We didn't do the clear on it either. I couldn't tell you the cost because it was donated. I know the material is about $200. I think the big cost is ink and design. As soon as the body is done on my car (hopefully in late december) I am planning on doing a wrap on my car. The nice thing is if you need to fix a pannel you can just have one printed out.

Does the sand blast any edges loose or dull it's gloss?

I would try to wrap the the vinyl around the panel edges so the vinyl edge is not exposed.

Yes, but I was wondering what happens if it gets a scratch through it or something.

Its not as tuff as P.C. butwill hold up better than most paint would.  If you put it over that fiberglass, you'll have to make new panels to replace it, well almost.
