Tips and tricks for angling bandsaw cuts
« on: March 15, 2009, 11:04:28 PM »
Lets have them. I seem to take a lot longer than I like getting my saw to cut just the right angle. Lotsa careful adjusting and a trial cut. I usually get pretty dang close (within a degree or two) but looking to do better.

Interested in the tips and tricks you guys may know to help make this a fast and easy thing. For any particuar degree.

Any special tools? Thanx Bill

Or should I just get me one of them dry cut saws? (like a chop saw but with a carbide saw blade instead of a abrasive wheel)

I never use the bandsaw but for plate work.I did buy an Evolution Rage metal cutting circular saw(skilsaw). I used it for the first time yesterday.EVERYONE needs one of them .  I was amazed at the great job it did. Cut through 1/4" 4130 plate like butter.

i just clamp the tube down in the saw with the angle finder on it. and tighten it real tight when i get it right. then to start cutting, i kinda hold it at the until it gets a good edge going.  seems to work good for me. probably not extremelty accurate.

For miter cuts on tubing I usually use the cold saw at work, but I did make this t slot table for my horizontal band saw. The band saw does have a swivel vise, but sometimes it's easier to use the table clamps. Especially for high angle cuts.

Interesting Rick. My saw appears to be the same kind as yours. (Different color and name but same saw) Were there already all the holes you needed to mount your add on table or did you have to drill and tap to mount it?

there are chips if you look on the lower right of the pic so we know he uses it. Unless it was strategically placed there to make us think that. There is also a drop of coolant on the table. Looks like Rick is slipping up.

I had to drill and tap the holes.
Where the mounting plate bolts up the casting is on a slight angle.
I had the gussets waterjeted with the correct angle.
They also have slots in them, so the nuts can slide in from the side.

I have pictures of the deer blind, (tower) but the mechanics are the wild part. and since none of the mechanics are exposed, photos just don't do it justice. I built in in my living room, back when I was a bachelor. I guess I am sick because I've never even hunted from it.
Had fun building it though.

I need to get pictures of those gates too. They weigh over 1000# each and look like a split rail fence. They are two 8' long W8 x21# I beam posts sunk 4' deep. The rails are 3-1/2 sq. 3/16 wall steel tubing. They're 12' wide opened and counterweighted with lead. They parallelogram up to 10' high on each side when opened up. When open the rails are vertical and folded up side by side. With the counter weight its very easy to lift. Once open the weight goes over center so they can't fall back down.

Still got the waterjet file? What might you want if so and could pop out a set? (If not no real biggie. Just if.)   The more I look at that the more I like it. I always felt like mine was missing that ledge out that side.

I would need to make sure mine had the same angle. Imma go take a peek at it.
If not I might have to confabulate something similiar.  Thanx either way. Bill

Sure, The angle is only about 3 or 4 degrees if I remember it right. Do you want the crs bars for the top too?
