Thinking about a spare.....

Question:
Saw this while trolling CL and I thought..... Hmmmm... for thast price might not be bad to have a plug and play spare. So, what does one look for? No leaks? Sounds right? Never bought just a motor before.....
Here is the add -
Engine is a Turbo Subaru JDM 4 cyl. 2.0 EJ20T. GREAT FOR SANDRAILS, rate at 250 hp factory specs. Runs great. Have it set up in a project rail so if interested you can see it run. Full jet coated exhaust included, also has the engine harness but DOES NOT include the ECU or ECU harness. Has polished valve covers and looks great. $1000

Well I guess I'd go and have him run it for ya...
1st thing to do is check the oil before he starts it clean and near full could be a mask for I just changed it or a good thing... he took care of it
I always listen for rattles when the motor 1st fires up and is cold...(solid lifters will rattle when cold) I don't think we have to worry about that
Once it's running look for blue smoke worn rings if it puffs blue smoke when 1st started worn valve guides,,,
I don't know much about subi's but that is the rule for old school motors
check the oil pressure cold and warm it should drop some
I think the turbo guru's better chime in

I think there's a reason why the engine DOES NOT include the ECU or ECU harness. Sounds like he hurt the engine he has and is getting a fresh one for himself. Looking for a sucker maybe to unload this one on.

I Know this motor is the turbo but the old EJ22 subi motors were a shit for blowing the head gasket or warping the head . if it's a runner check for occasional air bubble's in the header tank . if they are there walk away happy
