What tooling are you guys using to engrave text into a part on a VMC?

but something else also, isn't an American at all.  We have room for but one
flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is
the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a
loyalty to the American people."

for small stuff I use a #2 center drill about .005 - .010 deep

for larger stuff I use a .125 ball nose EM. about .010 - .030 deep all depending on pref.

I find that the center drill will leave a small rough edge.  I like using a 5/32 ball nose endmill .003 to .005 deep. Depending on how wide you need the engraving.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

1/32 ball nose or a half round depending on line width. The part #'s we engrave are pretty small.

Recently a customer wanted us to mill .200 high characters with .020 line width .040 deep so he could fill them with paint....... In a sheet metal panel that wasn't real flat.......... I did it, but I'm pretty sure he won't be doing that again after what we charged him........
