Anyone have any leads on a used one in excellent condition in the USA?

I don't know of one. There was a lathe at an auction that I had my eye on. It was the smallest power draw I had seen, but was still too much for my shop at 65 amp 240 3 phase. It was dual drive and had live tooling. What was funny is all the live tooling was 2 lot numbers before it. I don't think anyone bidding knew that. It was inside cabinets that I think people thought were empty. I wish I would have just bid on the cabinets then sold the tooling to the guy that won the lathe.

looking at a 2008 Haas TL-2. Any idea what it is really worth? No live tooling, unenclosed cabinet. 690 hours on spindle.

No idea what it is worth. For me, it is more about if something is worth the additional capabilities I gain and not what anyone else is willing to pay. Since the machine won't be running full time, that is lower than what a used machinery sales place will sell it for. I prefer to pay just over what someone who plans to sell for scrap will.

LMAO I can't tell ya how many times I've heard that in the last few months. I bought a surface grinder a couple weeks ago, not because I needed one but because I found a good deal on one and might need it someday......

If it is a tool room CNC lathe you are looking for, look at the South West Industries lathes. I would steer clear from the HAAS tool room lathes as they use linear guides as ways. In a chucker lathe thats great but IMO should not be used in a tool room lathe. I have heard of ridgidity issues and vibration issues. I have never run one though so Im going off what I have heard. I have seen and had demoed SWI's lathe though. You will love the control and there priced pretty well even new. There was one up this way for sale at around $20,000 where if I were in the market I would consider it. It also had a 4 station tool changer as well with tail stock and 3 jaw chuck.

Im buying a HAAS ST30 Chucker lathe with the tool changer and keeping my Nardini Fast Trace as the tool room lathe in my shop. Nardini is no longer around but I like the one I have if you can find them. Bought mine for $12,000 with tooling when the market was good.

How much you looking to spend besides least as possible?
LOL
