Old beam cars without any of the modern upgrades now available ruled at one time. Hell a good modern beam car is pretty damn hard to beat in the desert even now.

Hell of a lot cheaper to build too! My last rail was about half as much as my barracuda will end up costing to build.
My first two rails:
The first rail I put together...

I bought this one built and got rid of it way to soon. Didn't get a chance to enjoy it much. Priorities were in the wrong place... ex-girlfriend!  kick

They were fun and a hell of a lot cheaper to build and maintain.  My gearhead ass just overrode my better sense and so I started the build.  I have always wanted to build a car from the ground up and with no speed limits in the dunes I figured I would try that for a while.  The one thing I don;t like about the buggy I'm building is that it will not fit on the trails at LS.  May run this for a couple of years and then look at a Razor or something like that.

The Munster mobile was a lot of fun to ride around in because it got a lot of attention.

I fit many of the LS trails, admittedly a BIT tight, and I'm well over 8 foot with the paddles. Doing my part to widen them. Took out a big patch following fast and jerry.

Look close at my sand car. It started out as beam car with 8" of wheel travel front and rear. It just been modified ALOT, in the the last 10 years, to get to where it is now. 8) 8) 8)

Hell I built my current car thinking I will just drive it and maintain it. BAHHHAHHHAHHA. What the hell was I thinking. New motor, new trans, new front end, heated seats. And there is still more to come. Buggies are NEVER done!

Owning a buggy is worse than owning a house.

But, IMO you only make it as expensive as you want it to be. 8) 8) 8)
