Just dropped some cash today on a new aluminum spool gun for my mig. I was wondering if any of you guys have used one before and if so what you thought about it.

Spool guns are great...
little bulky at 1st, but unless your gonna tig weld it ...Spool gun is the only way to go...
I really liked my Lincoln spool gun with the auto change..trigger up, turn on the argon tank and go

Bulky is what i thought too but seemed to be a cheaper alternative to buying a tig setup. I probably won't even get a chance to use it for a week or two but it will sure be nice to be able to weld aluminum.

Practice practice,practice.

Hey, I use TIG and a Spool Gun daily.  If you ever learn how to TIG aluminum you will throw the spool gun away!  The spool gun does have its advantages though on thicker plate (over 1/4") It will take some practice to get the feel down for the gun though.  You will need to use 100% Argon for normal welding and/or a Argon-Helium mix for a hotter and deeper penetrating weld on thicker plate.
