Hello From Townsville, Australia
« on: May 02, 2009, 12:36:31 AM »
Hello everyone, been checking the forum out for a while and finally got the time to join up.

I'm 27 year old Boilermaker come Engineer from Qld, Australia. I work FIFO for a fertiliser company, but in my spare time,  I'm trying to build my first miniture buggy, a '99 R1 powered Edge Barracuda. I have had an interest in buggies since I was a kid and have made a couple of my own design (very rough, I can assure you) before having a go at somthing more complex.

My Barracuda has been progressing slowly over a few years (uni, work and family commitments), but its finally getting a kick along now. I'm learning a lot along the way (mostly how not to do things) and hope to have it finished by the end of the year.

Thanks for reading, I will put up some photos of my build (it's not much to look at the moment, its in pieces so I can weld the engine mounts in) if anyone is interested.

Regards,

Simon

Welcome Simon,

We are always interested in photos.  Does not even have to be of a buggy.  It is just our subversive way to get into the Admins pockets by making them pay for more bandwidth - an evil plan that brings us all joy.

FIFO - Five In, Five Out?   Fortnight?   Help?

Thanks for the welcome Yummi.

Close with FIFO - Fly In/Fly out.

I must admit to feeling a little embarrassed when I compare some of the other members builds to my own, but it won't stop me from putting up photos! My barracuda is defiantly being built on a budget, but when finished I will still be proud of it.

Keep an eye out for a bit of a build log.

A big welcome Simon. I should post up some pics of the stuff I use to build. I was goint to say exactly what Spec did on how we all started somewhere. He beat me to it. He is right though! I will never cut down someone who puts in a good effort. I understant that any piece of work is someones hard work, sweat, blood, and tears along with $$$. I can appreciate anyones work really. Been there done that!

Welcome again!

Simon, welcome mate and about bloody time too!

For all those who are about to receive (photos that is), you will see that Simon is being quite modest. His build kicks arse... one of the good ones.

Your all in for a treat... bring on the pics mate..

Ive spent a fair bit of time in Townsville as my eldest daughter used to live there (she worked at North Ward IGA), bloody hot, bloody humid!

Sitting at Benny's Hot Wok restaurant watching the biggest rain drops I  ever saw tearing small craters in the tar on the road ... well almost...

Thanks again everyone!

Artie, your too kind mate. Its a case looking good from afar. but far from good  ;). Your certainly right about the weather here in townsville though. I'm surprised fish can't breath the air, it's that humid.

I will start putting some photo's up tonight. I'm back off to work tomorrow for an eight, so it will be the last chance I get for a while.

Cheers.
