Title: new lathe
Post by: Garagebuilt on February 17, 2021, 05:24:55 AM
My Harbor Freight mini lathe finally gave up on me so I bought a new Grizzly G0602. I love the new lathe but I'm already considering upgrading it to variable speed.

I've had an Enco 11x24 lathe for almost 40 years now and have used the hell out of it. I bet you'll get the same results from the Grizzly. Are they as good as more expensive stuff,no,but they get the job done 99% of the time for us DIY guys.

Currently building my 10 year old daughter a buggy with a duromax 18hp engine.  And Second buggy is in the design/gathering
Parts phase.  Hope to have it built by mid to late fall.

Yes it works well for what we do.  Although I’m not a fan of changing belts to change speed.  Guess I was spoiled with the variable speed Lathe’s.

Ya,belt changes and back gear engage/disengage is a pita but I have lived with it for a few decades. LOL!!

Keep the updates coming on the projects.

That looks like a nice lathe.  I have a Logan lathe, model 830.  Made about 1945.  I traded 2 cases of beer for it.   :m  Still on of my best trades!

Is the logan a flat belt?

Yes, an old flat belt tied together with leather laces.  Works great but I can't cut threads with it.
