I would think if you use a strap, a piece of weather strip, neoprene, etc at the rub point (100%) would be good?

where are the smart ones?  Well, Rick is here, but really, is there no more?

Yummi, I was also thinking just rubber strips where the mount rings go.
I would like to here what others are doing.
Don't Yoshi's rails use the strap tank mount?

Im not a big fan of that tank hanging off the side like that. I also believe it should be suported from top or bottom. Think of how much that thing will want to move up and down and all your counting on is the tube? Fuel? Ahh  :o Not a good idea in my eyes! Yeah what does Yoshi do?

Yoshi now uses custom shaped tanks I believe.Yes a tank should always be rubber or asphalt impregnated felt(roofing felt) cushioned. At least that's what I've always read and done.

loyalty to the American people."

+1 It's not for the bouncing, it's for the high freq vibration.  A strap will eat right into a tank over time.  You get that electrolosis thing goin too or what ever you call it between alum and steel causing corrosion.

Steel and aluminum are not supposed to react too badly. They use steel plugs in aluminum heads, but you are not supposed to use brass.

The fun of this in some respects is working with what you have - no worries on the custom stuff - can we get a better side picture and an overall top and back picture?

Seems to me that if you welded in a cross bar in front of the other one, then mounted the strap to the backside of the first bar, life would be good - my idea? cradle the tank betwewn the two bars, use the straps to hold it in place and go go go?  Might end up raising the tank a bit, but no more than 2"

So the back bar is not holding anything. It is there is support the tank is case of strap failure.

I get Yummi's idea. But i am going the try and twist it, Please give your thoughts.

The red bar will be welded in ( 1 inch tube). The old brackets trashed, there will be no brackets at all. The round tank hangers will be weld to the red tube and the back tube. The tank hangers cut and an other closeure (where the nut goes to tigten around the tank) (taps welded to the hanger) added so the tank can be removed. 1/8 weather strip placed around hangers. That should keep it solid.

By weld the hangers to the tubes the tank can remain low.
