Roll cage - Bolt On - To do or not to do
« on: December 16, 2009, 12:14:27 PM »
I am in the process of streaching one of my Pilot frames. Of cource the OEM roll cage will no longer fit so I have decided to make a new one piece welded roll cage. I will be using 1 3/8" .095 DOM. The OEM cage is bolted on to the frame. I have been pondering to do the same and reuse the eixsting mounts. Now of cource welding it on would be the best however I like the Ideal of being able to remove the cage for ease of access. Thoughts please.

Weld it on and be done with it. It will be stronger and lighter. Plus, bolt on weldments rarely line up well unless you have a nice jig and weld in the proper sequence.

I prefer welded myself but if properly done on a light buggy a bolt on would be fine IMO.
