New car has been starting really well-------------until yesterday. It has been cranking over damn quietly------------------till yesterday. Smooth as greased baby poop--------------------until yesterday. I hit the starter switch and it begins to crank ------quietly---------smooth as you know what---------------BAM!!!. WTF? Sounds like the starter drive took a shit. No biggie I think. Welllllll,today I find one broken starter drive tooth and about 6 fricken teeth gone from ring gear. Normally wouldn't be a big thing,replace drive and flexplate but NOOOOOOOOOO,ring gear is welded to the torque converter. There is no separate flexplate   with the Fortin torque converter  setup. Gotta send it to TCS for work to be done. Might as well have tham open it up and make sure all is well inside. Hell,who knows, maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Fooking Meziere starter is over $500 and with a new drive for this one of over $250 and ring gear replacement of who knows what along with whatever might be found inside I'm out at least a grand in repairs and I haven't even drove the damn thing out the door yet!!!! rofl rofl  Crap!

Ring gear and starter pinion looked like new. They were only meshing about 1/2 way though. Will check that out very closely on reassembly. I have a email in to Fortin and Meziere to see if the can shed any light on that issue.

WOW!!  Just had to keep hitting that start button.  On bright side, there is NO better place for a car to fail than in shop!!

YUP! Especially with a torque converter car. Ain't no pushing it to get started.

Well,without a fricken starter ,and tilton and meziere both not having one available for ship before about 2 weeks,ya gotta wait. Not only that,the converter will be sent to TCS for a ring gear replacement. I'm not a happy camper either.

Yup,over $200 for just the drive and $525 for the complete starter. I want a spare starter since i have zero interest in being stranded sooooooo,over $750 plus ring gear replacement at the very least will be over a grand minimum.

Got a call from TCS(The Converter Shop  http://www.tcsperformance.com/virtual/tcsjava.html  )today. They receiver my converter Friday morning. They had already inspected converter innards and welded on a new starter ring gear. It was shipped out to me today. I think that is EXCELLENT service! I was absolutely amazed. Really refreshing to get above and beyond service. I can't say enough good about them.

I've always had good luck with them. They ain't cheap, but they make real nice stuff and it's always on time.

WTH is wrong with people today? In FOUR separate comminications with TCS I stated I needed the stator support seal. FOUR separate times including the time they called to get paid I specifically asked if the seal was included with the order. FOUR EFFING TIMES I was told yes. Guess what was not with the converter Friday when it arrived. Yep,the seal. I called them .Want to guess what their reply was ? We don't stock it anymore,sorry. BULL EFFIN SHIT! WTF is wrong with people?  Excellent service my ass.

Paying attention to what a customer asks and expecting a correct answer should not be expecting too much. Total BS on their part. Yes,I know everyone makes mistakes but FOUR fooking times with the same question?

In today's world you have to be in charge of what you are doing. If you do not you will loose. I was not in charge of my truck when I put the new clutch in and it was not the correct one. I told them it was the best one NAPA sold and I got the cheap one. Put another one in thanks to fast and sand savior.

it is sooooooo sad that you even had to ask 4 times but the very fact that it still didn't show is even worse. i assume you called and asked wtf? what did they say when you told them you were assured you would get it 4 diff times?


sand vw.......unfortunately napa and quality don't go hand in hand anymore.  in fact there aren't any parts stores any more that carry real quality..... when they say premium or house brand that means shit or shittier! lol tell them that and see what they say. i tell there saleman that all the time. cardone ruined the remanufactured parts world and dorman is doing a good job destroying the after market parts industry both have the major corp attitude....send it out and see what comes back!!!!!!!!!!!

All they said was "sorry". All I did was hang up before I began to rip their ass as I would have if I was needing the thing for a trip or something. Hell,I don't even know if they opened it up and inspected it. It's a bolt together unit. Fantastic turn around time but absolutely terrible communication.  Very nice people but ..............................well,you know.

Now a good report on Meziere. I bought a new started and a new replacement starter drive for my original so I can have a backup in the trailer. Bought it from Summit,going by Meziere catalog. It was wrong. Since summit policy is no returns on special order I called Meziere to make sure no more mix ups. Meziere offered to bypass summit,handle it directly and will even cover freight on correct one. Now ,that's service.

Funny, My past experience with Mezerie is the opposite. I have had to drive over there a couple of times to sort things out. Also had to show there lead "machinist" how to inspect parts. I think I was the first person to use the their surface plate and height gage in years.

Sounds like Gear-One. I will NEVER ,EVER buy any of their junk again. I've never dealt with Meziere directly before but this was a positive experience.I was very surprised and pleased. All I asked for was a correct part number ,everything else was offered without hesitation.
