My Barracuda in the sand.
« on: November 17, 2008, 03:53:04 AM »
Here's the video from Moses lake about a month ago. I drove the hell out of the car that day. Held up just fine. There is a part right after my cousin drove up with the fourwheeler (waving) that I held it pinned in fourth. The rooster tail is from the back bar on the chassis tagging the ground.

I fixed the link. The original video had a whacky aspect ratio.

you do a lot of hill climbs there? LOL! Just kidding. Looks like you were having a lot of fun. Great to see a member enjoying their hard work. Can you increase the spring preload and/or stiffen the bump valving a little?

Looks good, plkracer! Were you able to get enough traction or were you spinning out a lot?  How long did you ride that day and how much gas you use?

Yep, same car tires. They did decent, as long as you stopped pointing downhill or atleast on flat ground. When I came up to a hill I ticked it into third, and just gassed it. As long as I was in third, I could go up any hill. Second gear would barely make it up the steep ones, and I had to stop and coast back down on a few.

fabr, this is by the drag strip. Further west there are a lot of hills and dunes. My tire grenaded before we got vid of it there.

Phelps, it was spinning a lot. In 6th gear it was spinning, and with the wind resistance, I couldn't get above 75 mph even though the motor would redline. We were there for about 5 hours, spent an hour on lunch. I think I used just over 5 gallons of gas. I logged 61 miles on the rear tires.

Central washington, northeast of yakima, west of spokane, east of seattle. The dunes are by the potholes reservoir and Osullivan. They are south of the city.

The valving is actually a bit too stiff. I had the suspension set way too low into the travel, so it only had like 4-5 inches of bump at ride height. I need to add oil to the shocks to get them to stiffen earlier too.

Howdy Plk, im in the middle of building a modified Barra. One of the things Im modifying is the ability fo rthe chassis to hit the ground.

Obviously yours goes well, what is it powered by (the unbiquitous Hayabusa)?

oh.... perhaps I shoulda said modifying it to stop it hitting the ground....

This design alows the wheels to travel up so high that the chassis will sit on the ground.... imo bad... I like my spine too much.... ::)

The designer has his reasons for doing it like so...I have mine for modifying it....
