enclosed trailer security
« on: May 25, 2011, 01:21:40 AM »
There has been alot of enclosed trailers being stolen in our neighborhood. Like fifth wheel horse trailers, and snowmobile trailers to name a few. So i wanta make mine so they can't hook on and take the fooker when I'm gone. What are you guys doing to keep them safe? Have any pics of your setup?

I use insurance to protect my property.

Using just a tongue lock dose not work.  The SOB's will use the safety chain's crossed under the tongue and lay the tongue down on them and drive off.  When they get down the road a ways they will then take the time to get the tongue lock off.  I rap the safety chain's around the frame and lock them down with a pancake lock that can not be cut because there is not enough room to get a pair of bolt cutters in between the lock and the chains.  That way they have to cut the chain's and then they have nothing to set the tongue down on.  The more time they have to spend on a job the less they want to stay around.  Most of the time they will move on the the next one.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

off and on there are a bunch of trailer thefts around here. one thing I have learned from the police is they take plain trailers instead of ones with names or pictures or graphics on them. just a thought.

So a big POLICE sticker on the side should work.

If its gonna sit a bit and thats not good for tires.  Pop wheels off one side lock inside.  No need for a lock on tounge.

Here's a question though..

Mines got racing stickers, a GIANT "Quadbuilder" logo and its obvious I race ATV's...

Don't ya think the stickers may advertise whats inside the trailer?

I can see why they wouldnt want an APB out on my trailer though..  Easy to spot for sure..

For Breast Cancer Awareness!  Real men wear pink :)

(I actually use pink duct tape on my quad for that very reason, to raise awareness)

Maybe I should put a big sticker on mine that says "If this trailer is not being towed by a black Ford Excursion, pleases call... immediately"
