4 corner weight
« on: October 18, 2009, 08:02:33 AM »
Do any of you do 4 corner weighing of your car to help determine springs needed? What's your procedure if so.

the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a
loyalty to the American people."

I plan to do it when I build the car with the m/c engine to vw trans by direct coupling. I will need to put more weight on left side. I will borrow scales from one of my stock car buddies. Scales will give you each wheel weight. I have books that tell formula for figuring spring rate, if you have weights and dimensions of suspension. Tim

There was a pretty good write up on MBN bout it.  Not scientific, but close.  Here's what I remember: LMAO

I weighed mine and used the bathroom scale, digital.  Also placed the 3 other tires on piece of 2X6 so the buggy remained level.  Buddy races dirt track and had one of the scales drive car on the four pads and it weigh it all up, never made it to his house :(  Most racecar shops have these scales, and would probably weigh it for a little drooool time.  Those guys love fab stuff.

Also supported my buggy on stands removed shocks and weighed each corner to get the unsprung weight.

Each front was 110, and the rear was 245 with fluids.  The sides were within 2 pounds of ea other.  Based on the ratio of front I bought 175 springs, tad stiff but was quite pleased.
You can keep your CHANGE, I'd like to keep my DOLLAR.

Your buggy is too fat, LMAO.  Figuring 60/40 split on weight you would have to come in at 1300 lbs total to not max out a 400lb scale.

Easy fix. I'll make 2:1 ratio platforms for the rear if needed. Not hard to do at all. You have seen the 4:1 mechanical ones haven't you that some low buck stock car guys use?

Where's the add Master?

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.
