Title: toyhauler
Post by: dsrace on February 14, 2021, 04:48:34 PM
considered this floor plan just 6' longer, fridge moved back 3' for an additional 3' of counter top and plus a sink in the bath and a shower not a tub! the 24 version of this only weighs 5700 lbs and the changes i considered still left 14' 3" for the rail. this is the interior color that we went with on the 26' we did order.  it is nice they use residential queen beds. really nice small toyhaulers they call this one the dk floor plan  https://dunesport.com/build-toy-hauler-2.php?trailerid=150&type=Toy%20Hauler

2nd design and 32' long overall so 2' longer then what i finally chose. i was not of the added weight or expense of the slide out and my wife wanted counter space.

It won't matter how you configure it. I give it 2 years and you will be wanting something else if past performance is any indication of the future . ;) ;D ;D  Looks good to me though.

even allan was giving me crap at the dunes about it. he listed off all that i have owned and added one i never owned. i informed him that i never owned a red one and then informed him there was one he never knew about  :m i bought a tailgator by keystone via an iaa auction in soix falls south dakota....... they said it was 101" wide but when i went to get it , it was only 96" wide so resold it. never even loaded the rail as i knew it wouldn't fit. sold very quickly also and made a few dollars so not bad overall. actually broke even with the overnighter even including what i paid doug to bring it back with him from arizona. the camper market is horribly over inflated right now!  i have never broke even selling a camper of any kind let alone a brand new one that i used 6 times! i am very happy about it! and a little excited about the new one  ;D ....... again  rofl

well we are just waiting on lci to get the reversable sofa bed to dune sport to finish our toyhauler. some how ups has lost the first two lci shipped from indiana. fingers crossed they do not loose another 80x60" queen bed sofa sleeper!

casey at dune sport sent me a few very quickly taken cell pics.  dimensionaly stunted lol  i say that as when you look, the flip up counter top is 36" long and the remainder, to the front wall, is 44". so the counter top is 80" long with a 23x18" sink but in the pic it looks like 1/3 that size.

if the 3rd sofa bed shows up next week then i will probably run down and pick it up. if not then probably have it delivered. still a toss up on that one. my brother in law lives 30 mins from there and was going to deliver it to grand lake oklahoma for us but work schedule changed with the sofa bed delays.

i tend to believe this too. i know they could've left it laying on top of a large crate but would've had to have been a very large crate lol prob yanked it and said damaged and tucked it in a back corner for a diff path  :m

final #'s are .....7200 lbs empty ( they said 7195) with a tongue weight of 1150lbs ( they said 1145)  30' over all length, 26' floor, 8' side walls and supposedly 12' 6" to ac but i will verify myself.  tandem 7k lb axles so 6800 lbs ccc if the floor and frame will take it.

Post by: dsrace on August 26, 2021, 10:27:28 AM
fabr...... you made a statement as too waiting to hear whats wrong with this toyhauler...... 3 things so far and i dont have it yet. 2 of them are visable in the pics above. #1 on that list is manual awning placement. the handles are 5n6" off the ground. dumb assns used short arms and have for 20 years because they didnt know dometic offers standard rails for 5 diff height rv walls! ranging from slide in truck camper to stacker trailer!  when i emailed them the info there tune changed but refused to right there wrong because i said i was good with moving the awning to the roof line and the rails would move with it. lack of common sense with there team/staff.  so if i wanted my custom built toyhauler i had 2 choices, well 3 really lol ...... they'll remove the awning and i can install my own, 2. tey'll give me a $200 credit and i can swap the side arms out. i opted for 3 refund my deposit nd parts as it hasnt been paid for yet. i and brad ( general manager) went round and round a few times. he did do as i ask and found an employee 5'2" to video her closing the awning. denise is 5'3" and i demanded that she be able to at the very least be able to close the awning while i was gone. she did it so the offer was $200 to accept it as they will not pay labor to change it.    they used the 71 to 81m arm set on a 96" tall wall. next arm set is 81" to 96" !!!! common sense left the building i guess.

so next issue, i specifically stated that i wanted 2 light switches next to the battery for the nose cap and left wall. i had 1000 lumen led light bars added to all 4 sides. i told them to put those 2 on the own switches and mount next to the battery as i would already be out there if i needed those lights. they forget to right it down and that i instructed them too ad where.

3rd issue thus far....... now if i have a set of head phones on, they are on my ears like normal. so i sent 3 speaker boxs to have installed vs the cheap crap factory speakers. these boxns are 4 speakers with a pneumatic sub in the center. 2 channel box's so left and righ channels. they new that because they had to run 4 wires to 2 connection ports lol  so apperantly they wear there head phones diff then i do. i place mine on my ears where they apperantly turn theres so one in on the forhead and other base of skull. if you look at the porch pic, you'll see the black speak box mounted vertically. they came with 3 mounts..... recessed, 50% recessed or surface mouned. 3.5" thick boxns, 6" gap to door. if you look at the pics in the bed room you'll notice they did the same over the bed. if one was watching a movie then sound would go head to toe not left to right. complet and utter lack of common sense and the person that installed them holds an electrician's title!!!!

based on pics everything else looks correct....."looks correct"  ;)  we'll see soon enough.    based on my calls with the GM, they must be used to dealing with morons! i of course called him on his lack of info!

the cargo door on the drivers side ( left side) is where the sealed agm battery is located. thats where i wanted the switch.

the 4th thing that i wasnt happy about. the tie downs in the floor. i drew a crude print with dimensions. i did not indicate on center as thats how i measure and i thought they did too. they stated 16" on center wall studs so i never wouldnve guessed they didnt lol  so i drew out where i wanted each row, how far apart each and a total over all length of 160". he added them to the cad print and sent it to myself for review..... i glanced at it, saw the 3 short measurement i called out and signed off on it. i should've waited till i had time to look it over with a magnifyer!   so they measured from leading edge to trailing edge using 5" tie downs. so spperantly that overall length of 160" grew 15" plus another 3" as they had to be a min of 8" away from the ramp gate. you'll notice the tiedowns are up against the fridge. i have them almost 2' back from it so as to min the trip hazard over ratchet straps when we stop to grab a soda or sandwhich shile in route!    my fault, i didnt study the cad print and assumed they measured on center and understood 160" oal. i was wrong  :m

honestly the 3 speakers, tie downs and switch's are irritating for sure, bu,t the awning really pissed me off. if they cannot figure that out then how in the hell can they build campers! manual awnings are 70 year old tech with every option.

"if you want it done right then do it yourself"     there are many variations of that old saying . they all hold ture!

not looking for a new hauler........YET!  ;) rofl

i hope this one last 15 years but who knows based on whats transpired already.

i drew the floor plan specifically for our sand rails and camping wants.  this is a one of a kind build or i would not accepted the awning or there attitude and unwillingness to fix there f up while it was still at the plant!

this should check all the important box's and i can do something with the awning. i found 3" longer arms that will fit the lower half. easy to install wjo chaning mounting points and will drop the handles 3". there a tippy toe height for her right now.

It does seem as if nobody listens to their customers anymore. I just took a hit in the ass for over 5K on a custom door unit. Somehow it is my fault that I received a veneered door when we specifically went over the fact we /our customer wanted a SOLID not a veneer door. We have it recorded and in writing. Their attitude was FU,we delivered what we THOUGHT you wanted. Tough shit buddy. But they did kindly offer to let me buy another that would be as requested for an additional 2K.   beathorse.gif~c200

100% accurate!   basically what happened to you is almost identical , in attitude, as too how brad the gm handled it. he started by telling me it was my fault as i approved the cad print so they were not going to do anything about it. once i said that i did not approve the cad print because i never received a cad print, he said he was present when casey called me and he heard the conversation with casey telling me a power awning would be best. i replied, yes he did say that, i told casey un-acceptable, i want a manual awning. so then i and casey began discussing options. he said the 19' manual awning wont fit the roof line. i can see that so i agreed.  casey said, either a 17' electric awning or 15' manual awning. i asked why we couldn't get a 17' manual awning and casey simply said they could install it. i didn't ask why as i was at work and fairly busy. i asked if the 15' would cover the deck and entry door. he said yes and would sen me a pic showing me this. he did send a pic of the front to rear location of a 17' and 15', drawn in black line with no dimesions. i said ok the 15' will work. he then informed e they had to move the awning up to the roof  line to clear the deck.... i said ok no problem.   i had no idea they didn't know how to order longer arms nor that they were not smart enough to consider it.   that is why brad says i signed off on a cad print and knew the rails would be that high. a black line stick like drawing with no dimensions and i should've known that the arm handles would be 6' off the ground. my reply to brad was ....... a. why were the two of you unable to simply tell me that the handles would be 6' off the ground and that is why they recommend an elect awning? i said brad, wouldn't that be the best way to be sure all parties are on the same page? especially when only one party had dimensioned cad prints????   he said that anyone and everyone would've been able to look at that pic and know those handles would be 6' off the ground.  not knowing the awning mounting height, the length of arms they installed, the exact ground to floor line height it's just not possible.

so, fabr , yes, that is basically how i was treated as well. i expect this company to own there mistake and right there wrong. this company expects me to be a push over when they bully me and pay up and be happy like the majority must be.

they have me a bit of a disadvantage as i want the toyhauler.  it is my custom floor plan for my application and i have waited 7 months for it. i do not have it yet to inspect the rest but based on the pics its correct other than what i listed.

here is the cad print they said i signed off of. according to brad, GM of dune sport, anyone and every one can clearly determine where the side arm handles will be simply by knowing the side wall is 8' tall.   i said the majority don't even know how to read an actual cad print let alone reverse dimension one. i also stated that a line drawing is nothing more than a crap picture and in no shape form or fashion a dimensioned cad print!

I deal with it everyday. Welllllll,Thomas does now. If I had to deal with it I'd be in jail for some level of murder.

ABout 2 months ago we made a deal with a distributor for 3 pallets of flooring and an up to date display/sales aid. We were very specific as to our terms. Deliver all at the same time, period. We went over the all at the same time thing several times. I've learned many times distributors are wellllll , liars. i wasn't paying attention but they delivered 1 of the pallets and no display a couple weeks later and dumbass me wasn't paying attention so I OK'd the invoice and we paid it-on time. About a month later I asked where the other 2 pallets were and the display.  THomas called and was informed they had no idea when the rest of the order would be filled.I told him to have them pick it up and refund our money. They didn't like that but agreed.

About a week later the fawking sales rep comes in and starts bitching about how far he had to drive to basically tell us to F off. I unloaded on the SOB and he said fine they would pick it up and they would pull our account as well and good luck finding a new distributor since he was "putting the word out on us"to all the distributors in the area.  I unloaded on him some more and he luckily decided it was time to retreat with his pull our account victory.

A month goes by and no refund. Once again we call them and are informed the check has to come from corporate. WTF,where's my check,it's been over a month. I mean I pay all our bills easily as they come in-on time.

Fast forward another 2 weeks and today I get an accounting for the returned goods with a RESTOCK FEE!!!!!!!!  $800+ on a sale of $4500    BS!!!!! GAWD DAMMIT!!!!!  This BS again. It's happened so many times over the years you just get to a point murder becomes a distinct possibility. :m

I  had Thomas look up the corporate top dog. The distributor branch refused to give out the info.  We did luckily find it though. Surprisingly the COO did call back and I must say to his credit it was within 10 minutes.Long story coming to an end . He agreed with us and immediately issued full credit and I believe he will follow thru with the full refund. BTW,he said our account would remain open as we are a valued, pay on time without fail customer.  The man apologized ,I believe sincerely. Can't ask for more than that.

I wish I was a fly on the wall when the SOB sales rep got the call from the COO today. :m :m

The point of all this is I would find out who this Brad guys boss is and give the man/woman a friendly call explaining your concerns and ask what they would consider a fair resolution would be. Can't hurt, might fix all the issues.  DOn't give up until you reach the top of the heap. Brad is only interested in his numbers reported to corporate/his boss being as good as possible and doesn't give a rat's ass about whether you are happy or not. It's a flip of the coin but I have found out that more often than not the higher ups are more inclined to settle for what you want which is ,IMO,more than reasonable.

well you nor i nor anyone else should have to deal with such incompetence, but we do. what you went through should not have happened and was resolved in the end, sort of  ;). should not have have happened in the first place and those employee's should be fired or re assigned as they clearly are not capable/qualified to think for themselves  ;)!

i did try and find the owners info. they are a privately owned company, under new ownership since 2012.  i couldn't even find the GM's contact info in a search.  i am capable of fixing there mistake but should not have to. once i get a few trips down and everything else is correct, i will make a polite owners video. comments will be turned off so they cannot chime in  ;D. i will send a direct link to all the email addy's i have currently. on there fb page, they normally post a walk around video of the more optioned out toyhaulers. they  have not posted one of mine, its optioned out far more than most.  i wonder why....  ;D  :m

bottom line is , they would've had a very happy customer that would've spread the word about there custom builds if they would've simply swapped the side awning support arms to the correct length. they didn't look the info up, i did and presented it to them. i have asked 3 times that they contact there dometic rep for the correct p/n#. there response is that they dont have a sku # for it so cannot look it up. i have asked twice for there dometic rep's contact info so i can call, they won't give it to me.  rofl

i told them that i could overlook the incorrect light switch placement, the change in stereo , blu ray player, solar controller and microwave placement, the bizarre speaker orientation, the incorrect tie down location and tire size change with out notice ( specifically called out 235-85x16 and got 235-80x16 still g range salun tires as requested). i told them the #1 issue with the awning, is that my wife has to be able to close it, standing on the ground, with out the use of a ladder, in the event i am out and the wind sets in.  i asked that they find a 5'2" person to video that  they are capable of closing it. they did do it but didn't take into account that one would have the awning higher if they were on the side patio. the side patio option was the final deciding factor on purchasing the custom unit.   when i mentioned that they didn't raise the awning for a person on the patio in the video they were done.  am i surprised there team didn't think of this themselves????  ;D

i did find a chart on dometic site ( horrible web site) there is a 3" longer main arms that should work. this would get the handles down 3" and may be the doable w/o cutting walls open. once i get it the toyhauler i can figure out what to do. i can see in the pic that there are 7 more open holes in the lower arm. they appear to be 1" on center spacing. i did ask and the GM ( brad) said no, they were 1/2". i know that is not possible as the holes are 3/8" themselves. i didn't bother to correct him as that would've been like pissing into the wind!  ;)

attached are a pic of dometics 5 diff length side arm sets for manual awnings lol and a pic of the very crude tie down location drawing. it clearly reads 160" over all length, not 176"! it did not indicate on center measurements and i'll own my mistake on that one. i was at work and that was the best i could do at that moment. i can add two more and still achieve my end goal. as i said to the GM..... sort of defeats the purpose of ordering custom built when i have to fix there mistakes. his response was that i'm still getting a floor plan that no one else offers and that he doesn't know why i am complaining. i replied that i am not complaining, i am asking they right there wrongs.  he is correct that there is no floor plan like this as i designed the floor plan. that is the only point he is correct about  :m

they still cannot understand why i didn't just go with a power awning. they stated they told me to as to avoid this issue. they did not explain why and couldn't imo. they didn't know there were longer arms ( how that's possible i do not know but they really didn't) i knew there were longer arms and never would've guessed they didn't. i called it a miscommunication but brad didn't agree per our first phone conversation. he did adopt the term during our 2nd conversation, once he personally visited the toyhauler and looked over the chart i emailed.  this should be a simple issue to resolve while still at the manufacturing plant, they simply refuse for some reason. i hope i am happy with the remainder of it, only time will tell. i laugh every time i watch the cell video  brad sent. i had asked the salesman i had delt with the entire time to make that video. he would not and just sent it up the chain.

when i say they changed the location of the microwave, stereo, blu ray player and solar controller, this can be seen in the cad print i signed off on.  those electronics were supposed to go in the first cabinet. i wanted to be able to close the cabinet door to cover them up. the microwave was supposed to go in the left wall, over head cabinet, above the flip up counter top. we rarely and i mean rarely use the lp cook top, so the microwave would've been better used over the counter top prep area which is the 36" flip up.  that's what i called out, what was agreed upon and proofed in the cad print.......they decided they liked it all better elsewhere  :m  :nw as it will work where it wound up over the cook top. radio and blu ray player wound up mounted above the fridge and solar controller with the light switch's on the interior wall by the door. i knew the wouldn't correct those mistakes, especially if they won't correct the awning arms!!   beathorse.gif~c200

I really don't mean to sound like I'm making light of this. If it were me,I'd take delivery and then bring suit against them in small claims court and get all I could there to offset fixing all the shit . In Kansas Small Claims court allows somewhere near $5K . What state is the hauler made?  Downside is that you would likely have to file the action in that state..   I have had to literally ,over the years, file 100's of small claims actions . I have only lost one time. To me it comes down to principle. I did what I promised and was not paid,I sue after making every effort to settle the issues reasonably.  This is the same thing in reverse. You paid ,I assume, a deposit for a custom hauler with the options signed off on. You did not receive what was signed off on and you can prove it with documentation. Simple small claims action.

IF you do go that route, have all your evidence/documentation in triplicate so the judge/yourself/defendant will all have the same info in front of them. Judges hate having to pass info back and forth, most will not and you will lose due to just that. In small claims there are ,depending on state law,no lawyers allowed. Calmly and factually without any accusations or bitching/whining present your case and then shut up. Let the defendant sink his own ship as they usually do. If what you have presented here is factual, and I have no reason to believe it is not,it should be an easy judgement in your favor.

i too believe i would win in small claims court. i believe here in nebr small claims has a $1500 or $2k limit. it just isn't worth the effort in this case. here in nebr (i am not up to date so possible the law has changed) even if you win in small claims ct, if they do not pay, you have to then sue them in civil ct to enforce collections and/or liens.
just not worth the effort in this case.        this floor plan is a 1 off, which is why i am continuing with the purchase.  i hope to have it here in a couple weeks. you are correct on " the principal of it" . i did tell them to shove it up there ass, thats why the agm ( brad ) called me.  brad refused to swap the awning arms out with standard long ones.  finally got pics of the awning with serial #'s.....they used the short arms as in the set you would use on a slide in truck camper. must be ood stock they wanted to get rid of like the awning. for what i spent on a " custom" toyhauler, i shouldn't have to over look and or live with any part of it. i will address 2 issues,#1 on the list is the awning. i am pretty sure i can make a $300 adjustment that will work, but won't know until i have it here.  i will have to add 2 more ties downs to the floor. too late to move the microwave and stereo etc.  they glue the interior panels to the studs so moving the outside light switch's is not going to happen. they would not give me 2 additional sheets of matching paneling and seam tape. yes i asked and they refused. i have an idea on the switch's depending on how they wired them. last on the to do list though. what i will do is put together a really nice youtube video labeled " dune sport owner's review".    ;D

my goal was 15 years  :D :m  its possible especially since i store it under a 3 sided car port.   as long as the rest of it is built even half way dcent ( as compared to most toyhaulers) then i believe 10 to 15 years isnt out of the question. it is layed out exactly for our needs\wants.....floor plan but not the appliances now. the purpose in putting the stereo, solar carge controller, monitor panel and blue ray player in the cabinet was to close the door. out of sight, no lights flashing etc etc. not a huge deal. yes, i hope it works out as well. i will fix there f up with the awning

so just a tiny update.......

i can say that i would never recommend purchasing anything from dunesport. it's sad as they are the only ones that will build your floor plan. there is a lack of quality control and there is at any company however there greatest issue is in the admin.

in writing, they claim 2 year structural, 1 year full bumper to bumper ( specifically stated appliances)  but when you have a water heater or furnace that don't work correctly they tell you to take it up with the manufacturer. i know warranties are only as good as the people backing them so this is of no surprise.

this year was i an my wifes 20th anniversary. she has never been to mt rushmore so i decided to take her on a trip to see the sights. we visited mt rushmore, custer nation park as well as wall drug and the badlands. i drove across iron mountain road too but would not recommend that in a drw truck lol it was tight but luckily it was a slow weekend being the weekend before memorial day. it dropped down to 28* for two of the nights. there is no insulation in the floor of this toyhauler and they do not tell customers that they do not insulate. luckily it only dropped to 28* for 2 or 3 hrs the one night and 5 or 6 hrs the next with highs in the low 60's those days. the night it dipped for 5 or 6 hrs the water in the hose began to slush but never froze under pressure.  had to drive into rapid city for a 2nd space heater. wife had it up to 80* in there at one point and that is too hot for myself  :m we had full hook ups at both camp grounds and i have to say that it is very nice to have sewer hook ups!  had a great time all in all and put 350 miles on the truck just touring the mt rushmore custer park area and the bad lands area.

our first trip with the toyhauler i found a water trail and couldn't tell where it came from. thought it was a water fitting so i hand tightened all i could find. took the access panel off the base of the shower thinking maybe the drain fitting, that was dry. well i found the source of the leak on this trip, the water pump itself.  i know the check valve didnt work from our first trip. the 3 days at the dunes it allowed the city water to fill up our 100 gal fresh tank. i installed shut off valve so that cannot happen again and that valve is part of a winterization kit to pump anti freeze into the water lines.  i spoke with the owner of dune sport ( brad ) personally and he said they would warranty the pump.  took 6 more emails and 8 months but i got one! so the body of the pump leaks under pressure. doesn't leak a huge amount and not consistent when and how much it leaks.  leaks when city water is connected and when the pump is in use. had to swap out small towels under it for a few days to get by. found our the furnace doesn't work and the thermostat on the water heater isn't working correctly. the water shouldn't get hot enough to roll steam off the bottom of the sink!  :m  when i emailed asking for dune sport to warranty these items they said thats between i and the manufacturer. not a surprise in the slightest bit coming from that company.

the roof also leaked on the first trip so they sent me 5 tubes of glue to fix it........i did get it fixed and learned they do a shit job on the roofs. i did get 200 watts of solar installed and it works quite nicely.

only ran into a dusting of snow up in the altitude 3 times, no big deal and didn't last long but the whole trip was warm weather clothes. i was quite comfortable personally.

the slanted nose of the camper def creates down force in a head wind or atleast 90% head wind. ran into a lot of wind on that 8 hr drive up and 9.5 hr drive back. enough of a down force the truck runs 10 psi more boost to overcome it! other then that it tows very nice empty.

Sounds like the buck should stop at the management. I can understand/sympathize with their likely stupid/don't care employees problems but if management was to remedy the issues promptly without hesitation I could overlook the whole stupid employee issues. Anyone who has employees knows the headaches they cause. Smart companies fix issues without whining or just sending 5 tubes of glue for a roof with obvious issues........ i know you 2 well enough to know that.

i do need to clarify on the fridge........there is a time and a place for lp/electric absorption refigerators. only scenerio i can think of is boondocking with shit batteries and no solar. the term  "shit batteries" encompass's near dead from over discharge or at the end of its life, 40 usable amp hrs, or walmart never start specials cause hey, there batteries right  LMAO .

i cannot forsee a reason i personally would go back to a lp/electric fridge. havent come across a lot of neg posts on the dometic model we opted for but there have been a fair number on furion and 2 other brands. i forget the names of the 2 other brands but i'm sure there all 3 the same chinese company.

interesting observation on the other 3 brands is that there are no diff power level settings. they have diff temp settings but no option for diff power level settings. our has 3 power level settings and 4 temp settings. the eco power level setting draws 3.5 amps when it cycles. performance ( max) draws up to 15 amps. have verified that one yet but have the 3.5 amps. so performance and temp setting 2 is a few degrees warmer then i would like but temp setting 3 in performance mode begins to freeze soda overnight to the point of deforming the cans. will give power level 2 a try in tep setting 3 to what thats like.

now exterior temps effect lp/electric rv fridges a lot. this 12v has no exposure to outside temps unless you leave the windows and doors  open. it operates very similar to a residential 120v fridge. iterior temps can effect it but no where near as much as ambient does lp/elect fridges. this one is food safe in 4 hrs rather then 24 to 48 hrs.

the attwood air command no ducted ac units have got to be the quietest roof ac units i have ever owned.

i would like to look over the new 24 volt roof ac systems and they say they are lower profile and have the db's. not spending the money to find out on a personal level but would like to know.  the hot water heater works, it just doesnt shut off soon enough and the water begins to get so hot its on the verge of spitting out the over flow blow valve on its exterior. steam rolled off the bottome of the sink when i ran the hot water. on the upside, didnt really need soap to clean the greasy spatuala off  ;)   i called dometic and they use snap switches for a thermostat. now i wonder if the windy 40* weather was messing with the snap switch? it dipped down to 28* 2 nights in a row and theres no insulation in the floor. the water heater sits on the floor. never had issues with it on the first trip. plenty of issues with other items but not the water heater.

1 year owner review, fair warning, this will be a long read

oct made one year of ownership of the dune sport toyhauler 26 fb model. 26' of floor and 30' oal. has been quite the adventure debugging this toyhauler,, prob 70 hrs labor and counting. dune sport has sent me some of the parts under warranty. they forgot to install a couple things altogether, made a lot of mistakes in the construction. i expect new campers to have some issues but this has been quite the experience. i can say, based on the manufacturers behavior, statements, and warranty, i will never buy another one.

let me start by stating that over all, we enjoy the toyhauler. this is the only company i found, that allows the customer to draw their own floor plan. for that reason alone, as a whole, it has fit our needs hauling our toy. the unfortunate part is that i have spent more time finishing dune sports build and repairing there mistakes than we have used it.

i am not posting this to bash dune sport, nor to tell people to run. i am simply posting this for anyone searching this brand. looking for honest experiences. they clearly have more happy customers then upset ones. a few bad reviews on yelp and google as well as the bbb, with far more good reviews.

this is the 6th toyhauler ( 2 lost to hail) we have owned over the last 21 years plus. i have some experience repairing campers including lifting walls to replace sub floors. what i may consider " not to big of a deal " others may not.

we have had 14 issues with the toyhauler. not the smaller issues we have had like...... loose trim, bathroom and bedroom doors that needed adjusted, stripped screws falling out of the emergency escape window latch, ceiling mounted tv travel strap screws pulling out of the ceiling, caulking lifting off the bathroom surround and pulling the top layer of the wall panel with it. those were what i consider tiny annoying issues that are simple to repair.

once you finalize your cad print, there is a 10% deposit. our 26fb had a base price of $25,840.00 and we optioned it out to $46,203.00. waited close to 6 months to have this built as well as sold our ( at the time current) toyhauler to help pay for it. they state in the contract that the deposit is non refundable. they allowed me to purchase a few items ( dropped shipped to them ) that they do not offer and they installed them for a small fee. design and purchase was great and their willingness to work with their customer was fantastic......after the sale it changes drastically.

water heater thermostats started to fail on the 2nd trip. i contacted dometic and they sent new ones. very easy to swap out so no problem. the furnace didn't work from day one. i emailed dune sport to find out there is no warranty on appliances. so if your considering a toyhauler from them, know that there is no warranty on appliances nor do they insulate there floors. that's another one they do not tell people. i will have to pull the face of the lower cabinets off to get the furnace out.

the first issue was when they sent 60 pictures of the completed toyhauler. everything looked good at first except the awning. i specifically ordered a manual awning as i am someone that knows the true benefits of a manual awning vs an electric awning. i also use the manual awnings in car port mode if i want to get out of the sun to work on my toy. not a common occurrence but not rare. they tried to talk me into a power awning but i insisted on a manual. they sent a cad picture ( not a dimensioned cad print) of a 17' power awning overlayed on a 15' manual for my approval.

obviously power awning side arm rails are short where manual awning arms go to the base of the wall. i didn't understand why 17' power awning would fit or only a 15' manual awning. didnt really care and didn't ask. now that i saw the build date on the power awning i am pretty sure it was a left over they had in stock as most pre fer power awnings these days. i was only concerned that it would cover the side patio and entry door, wasn't worried that it didn't cover the entire side.

(https://i.postimg.cc/1gPL4cT1/awning-overlay.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/1gPL4cT1)

i had no reason to ask if they knew how to properly size manual awning arms to the different side wall heights. they did not and the handles of the manual awning are almost 6' off the ground. i'm 5'11" and i have to use a step stool to use the awning. they stated anyone and everyone would know that based on the cad print pictured above and the fact they are 8' tall walls. again, not a cad print of the awning itself.

the bottom of the door is 34" off the ground and awning handle is even with the bottom of the window.

(https://i.postimg.cc/9DxnF5GZ/DSC-0001.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/9DxnF5GZ)

i sent an email stating that was unacceptable and with in minutes received a call from the owner of dune sport, brad. brad stated that i had signed off on the cad print and that i knew the awning handles would be that high and that dune sport would not pay their staff to change it. he bluntly told me this was my fault and that dune sport will not fix this. they still had the toyhauler on there lot at this point. i explained that they did not send a cad print and that the pic they sent showed short awning arms typically found on power awnings. i also stated that dometic offers 5 different length arms for different side wall heights. he told me they do not have any such info in there system and will not order different arms. i had to actually walk him over the phone, to the page on the dometic's web site, proving to him, that dometic does indeed offer 5 different length arms. proved to him that they used the short one typically found on tall side, slide in truck campers! he did admit that they did not know dometic offered other length arms as they are not in there system. I believe he was genuine in that statement. i asked why they didn't call there dometic rep when they knew that was wrong and he simply started in stating they will not fix it. in fact he stated that they would remove the awning or give me a $250 credit to keep it, as is, and nothing else. i had no idea that a toy hauler manufacturer didn't know how to properly size a manual awning arms for an 8' tall side wall. i do, and have a couple times. here is a pic of my previous wolf pack, you can see the manual awning rails go all the way down on an 8' tall side wall. forest river and keystone know how.

(https://i.postimg.cc/cKTkQ3j8/DSCN3579.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/cKTkQ3j8)

we had a trip planned and indeed wanted the toyhauler, as it is our custom floor plan. i accepted the credit. called dometic ( thats not a fun time) turned out that the manual awning was old enough that dometic discontinued that line. guess it was left over stock? supposedly universal rails will fit it but 6 months back order plus i have to open the walls to add a backer to mount them. i'm still using a step stool for now.

one of the options we added was 1000 lumen lights on all 4 sides. i had opted to have the 2 switch's for the left wall and nose, placed in the left front storage door above the battery. i asked why they weren't there and they stated i never requested that location. obviously they forgot, as i explained that this was not only in the cad print but notated in the invoice..... they did not correct them. not the end of the world but when you routinely show up to the sand dunes in the dark, one less step to turn those lights on for set up is just nicer. i let it go.

(https://i.postimg.cc/N943TNSw/Captureswitchlocation.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/N943TNSw)

i then noticed that the microwave was over the cook top rather then on the left wall over the prep area, as my wife had asked. i had asked that they use the cabinet over the cook top, to house the 12v stereo, 12v blue ray player i sent, solar controller display and anything that flashes. someone decided it would look better the cook top and the radio and blue ray player over the fridge. with the solar controller on the side of the fridge. they did not move the solar controller in the final cad print and i missed that....that on myself. again i noted that this was on the cad print and notated on the invoice, they did not correct their mistake. again i simply let it go

(https://i.postimg.cc/nXxNtnfT/DSC-0029.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/nXxNtnfT)

i purchased 3 two channel speaker box's, had them drop shipped directly too them. picture w/o the grill on, theer are right and left hand speaker jacks on the rear. they come with flush, semi flush or surface mounting plates.

(https://i.postimg.cc/MfRzCkGJ/FUSION-Sound-Panel-White-Internal-600x400.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/MfRzCkGJ)

they wired two incorrectly ( no big deal ) honest mistake. they did call to tell me one was no good. turned out they had reversed the polarity, so easy fix once i heard it. my real issue is with how the installed them. the one on the side porch was mounted vertical rather then horizontal, as sound bar ( with rt and left channels) as should've been mounted. the box's in the living area and bedroom were correct in the cad print. didnt believe i needed to specify the orientation. i guess that is my fault for not specifying a 2 channel box needed to be mounted horizontally.

(https://i.postimg.cc/bs5wsRK5/speakers.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/bs5wsRK5)

at least they got the speaker over the couch correct. that 1 out of 3

(https://i.postimg.cc/mPFCDk6Q/DSC-0047.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/mPFCDk6Q)

speaker orientation is wrong in the bedroom as well the patio. i brought this up, but, clearly the holes had all been cut to flush mount them. i did state, where i'm from, we wear head phones on our ears, not our forehead and the base of our skull, didnt find it as funny as i did. again i let this go.

caught covid so wound up paying to have it delivered. there were 2 main musts my wife had in this build....large ss sink, under mounted and a left swing door on the rear of the side patio. obviously so no one gets hit opening the door. i paid extra for a 30" grey left swing door. unit shows up with a right swing door. luckily it was 30" rather then their standard 24" wide. i notified them, they told me that was my fault for not catching that issue in the 60 pics they sent. none of there pics were a straight on shots, with the  patio door down. i sent a screen shot of their cad print showing it was to be a left swing. again, dune sport stated it was my fault for not catching it. i sent a picture of the cad print and a highlighted the invoice showing it was on both.

(https://i.postimg.cc/nXXdKq0g/patioinvoice.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/nXXdKq0g)

(https://i.postimg.cc/zy4xx3QB/rightswing-doorhighlighted.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/zy4xx3QB)

(https://i.postimg.cc/bGK99Ms2/bradrefusing.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/bGK99Ms2)

i told them that this mistake, i absolutely will not overlook. took some arguing but brad finally admitted, that he changed the invoice/cad before it went to construction. he blamed the salesman for not properly labeling drivers side door. he stated, they don't list them as rt and left swing in the rv industry, rather drivers side and pass side. he agreed to send the correct door but refused to ship it claiming there is too much damage in shipping. i can see that on one hand. asked that i tow it back so they could do it. i said no, that's a 20 hr drive, one way and I would have to take a week off of work for the trip. several months went by but they found a customer this direction to send it with and I installed it. I saved the old one and will return it when they find a shipping method. they said i should ship it back at my cost! that's a no

they also forgot to caulk the base of the wall to the floor on the patio. if it were to rain, with the deck down, water would run right under the wall. it was an easy fix. i need to buy a small sink drain to install in the floor in case of rain. i coated the perimeter of the ramp gate frame to keep water from wicking in, if i leave it down in the rain. no big deal but annoying

https://rumble.com/embed/v1w90l6/?pub=4nukn (https://rumble.com/embed/v1w90l6/?pub=4nukn)

you could see light from the upper left corner of the ramp gate. I took a pic with the lights out and shades drawn so that it could be seen in a pic. the pic is pretty dark though. 2 issues with the gate, it was crooked in the frame and they cut the foam rubber gasket 2" short on the corner. i heated it with a heat gun to release the adhesive, stretched 2" and stuck it back down. this is a short term fix as it will shrink with age. i used plastic door shims to space the bottom of the gate on the inside. i loosened the spring hinges and then used the same shims to better align it to the frame. the frame was welded together 1/2" wider at the top then the bottom. not sure if they come with the steel tube frames or not. i did get it sealed up, sent pics and dune sport did send replacement foam rubber gasket. easy enough to repair, for myself.

(https://i.postimg.cc/nMW6gYqJ/rampgatehole.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/nMW6gYqJ)

water pump leaked through a seam in its body. the internal check valve didn't work either. filled 3/4 of my 100 gal fresh tank in 3 days. a few emails later they sent a replacement....it too was bad. that is an lci issue not a dune sport mistake. i bought a variable speed pump and no more issues. they also sent the winterization kit that i optioned, that they forgot to install. i have the crimp tools, so not a big deal either. they forgot to install the low point drains but remembered the sticker on the frame where they were supposed to be :) did not send them either.

the medicine cabinet kept spitting its shelves out on smooth roads. in my 15 mile drive, on smooth roads, it would eject both shelves and the brackets with them. they forgot to add a backer to the wall. the cabinet was screwed to 1/8" paneling, basically. i used a tape measure to measure the movement ( 1" of movement ) because they didn't believe it , blamed it on bad roads and stated that they do not need to use a backer as they are lagged in. after seeing the video/pics they admitted that one needed a backer.

https://rumble.com/embed/v1w8xuk/?pub=4nukn (https://rumble.com/embed/v1w8xuk/?pub=4nukn)

something that we were really unhappy about was the fact that the roof leaked on our first trip. i had to take the front wall apart, not only to find the leak but dry the wall out and the insulation. it was an air bubble in the sealant. i found the slit and scraped it back for the picture. had they applied a butyl tape between the fiberglass and pvc roofing , then applied the self leveling caulking ( as they should've), probably wouldn't have leaked.

optioned in one of there custom installed wireless winches. they buy them from harbor freight. installed a 3500lb badland model. 1960 lbs sand rail, the winch went into thermal overload, with my toy half way up the ramp. they forgot to tighten the cables so they were arcing. they also used to small of wire for the 12 foot run to the battery, for an 80 amp draw. that's what their winch stated for that weight and spool. that was lucky as they only lag screwed that winch to the wood floor. no steel backing or connection to the frame. either they forgot to tighten the lag screws, or they started to back out. had to lower the front fresh water tank to get to the back sides to add steel plates and bolts. not a fun job but i did replace the winch with a 4500lb model. they used two lag screws, through a 2x6, into the floor, then 4 through the winch to the 2x6. not good

(https://i.postimg.cc/9DRP1nM2/DSC-0058.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/9DRP1nM2)

I optioned in 2 spare tires as this is a tandem axle trailer. they installed lci tire winches onto an H frame, that is welded the frame. the winches were installed on the wrong side of the frame. because of this they never bottom out and flop during transport. they began to unroll, but were luckily caught before they touched the ground. i removed the spare tire carriers and correctly installed them.

(https://i.postimg.cc/tshDdcJc/thumbnail-Resized952021092195152338.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/tshDdcJc)

the extremely poor quality roof construction is the worst part imo. they should be ashamed of themselves. luckily i store this in a building and inspect routinely.  had they told me they didn't use full sheets, i would've gladly paid extra and even thrown in an extra $30 for a broom so the guys could sweep the debris off before gluing the pvc down.

https://rumble.com/embed/v1w92y6/?pub=4nukn (https://rumble.com/embed/v1w92y6/?pub=4nukn)

that is pretty much all the negatives.

there are some positives..... every panel i have had to remove for repairs has shown me they have a top notch 120v ac electrician on staff.

they do build to your floor plan and that a huge plus for larger toys.

they only option in what you want and not a bunch of items you don't need/want, that keeps the cost down.

the plumber did a very clean job as the electrician did.

the design process is fairly easy and they are very helpful during that part.

they do allow you to send items for install that they dont offer. may not install them correctly but they do get them installed.

the toyhauler pulls very nice.

they let you option in larger axles and bigger tires.

they let you option the axles on top or below the leaf springs.

pretty much anything can be upgraded.

they offer 3000 lb ramp doors in full 8' heights for a better loading angle.

they offer 5000lb ramp doors for heavier toys.

they offer solar packages in pre wired or full systems.
cabinets are not great but nice and you can add as many as will fit.

allow different wardrobe combinations as well.

the air command non ducted ac units they use are definitely the quietest i have every used! wish they would've offered the extensions offered to remote the control units from the face to the wall rather then the remote controls but not the end of the world.

the 12 volt compressor 10 cu ft dometic fridge is the best i have ever had and wouldn't go back to an rv gas/electric for our application.

they let us option in 50 gal black, 50 gal grey and 100 gal fresh water tanks.

let us option in a sani flush system as well as 50 amp service for the two roof ac units.

they do offer cameras but we didn't option that in.

they also offer auto leveling system for bumper hitch. we didnt

they also offer power jacks systems. we didn't

i am someone that expects to get what i paid for. i never got rude or yelled at any staff member. I did state that there is a lack of common sense among members of their staff. apparently that was considered rude i was labeled a nit picker, complainer and difficult customer, verbally and via email.

(https://i.postimg.cc/5QMbcBFp/caseyrant.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/5QMbcBFp)

based on my experience, those labels are because i expected to receive what i paid for where they believe the customer should be happy with what the received. maybe i expected too much and all of the above is being to critical?? i don't think so but maybe.

I know I've given you a rash of crap over your toyhaulers but I do agree with you. It is amazing how bad the trailer industry is in general AND they just keep getting away with it. Of course they know they will likely only sell a customer one and never see them back. Not much incentive to whether the customer is happy I guess.

100% agree on the industry and dune sport is a bad company for sure.  my owner reviews on 3 diff forums may save a few but are not a worry to that company.

so i had planned on staying until sat morning even though the rail was down and everyone else had left. figure i could go for a ride with brian N or allan or marc. wind was supposed to change and come out of the south on sat but damn sure hasn't up here! the drive home was horribly windy. trailer towed a lot better then the first trip with the rail backed in. i purchased a weigh safe hitch to weigh tongue weight and pulled in i only had 700 lbs tongue weight with a 10300 lb toyhauler. that explains the first trip. so fabr, after this trip, you might just win the 2 year bet.

friday afternoon, sitting on the patio enduring the cold wind and rain, while chatting with allan and vic, my wife comes out and says there is a leak in her ward. it was running down the roof of the ward/closet and dripping through a piece of trim. not sure where the leak is as it took a couple days of rain to find a way in.  stuck a towel in there and was going to live with it for the day. then she came back out and told me there was a 24" dia wet spot on our bed and that the roof ac was now leaking. sure as hell it was dripping our of the fresh air return vent! of all places! that was it, cold , raining, cranky grandson cause he was stuck inside, rail was down and now 2 roof leaks and a wet bed! that was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back. spent yesterday on the roof of the camper washing it and running a hose over everything to get it to leak again. could not get it to leak but discovered that the didn't tq the back bolts near as much as the front ones on both roof ac units. i could wiggle the back of the ac units. i found a gap in the aluminum roof edge molding that tucks the pvc roof to the side walls. i filled that in and sealed all of that strip the length of both sides to be sure.  now the camper was tilted to the right side at camp. its possible the gasket leaked on the ac and it ran to closet first. opened the closet back wall which is open to the ceiling and put a fan on high for 8 hrs yesterday to dry what ever i could.

so 1250 lbs tongue weight with the rail backed in and here is a pic of the cat scale info, loaded for a dune trip with fire wood.

Really liked the overnighter but that frame wasn't near strong enough for the long hauler. The custom dune sport had issues for sure but to date I repaired them. There will be more as all the new toybaulers are just absolute crap! Really sorry I sold that Wolfpack 295. That was 10 years old but still better built at 10 years of age compared to the new.
