Title: Converting a smaller Car hauler
Post by: Leatherneck on September 23, 2009, 11:53:27 PM
just wanted to add
my enclosed trailer ( h&h ) is 102" wide by 20' long with the 30" v nose on the tongue with two 5400lbs axles also has two beds heat and air on roof, insulated, rv door and screen door  ( left side )weighing in at 3900lbs empty ( according to the shipping slip from h&h trailer manufacterer ). I have since added an awning 16' and  a closet with tv - fridge and microwave just to make the camping trips a little more rustic!

Dsrace, you have any pics of your trailer, I have one same size without the v-nose and was thinking of converting it but lack the vision. Anybody else with pics would be nice. Thanks!

BTW Whiplash sent me, don't hold it against him either.

DS has bed/couch thing that folds up against the wall. Search the web for rv furniture but they are expensive. Handy but $$$$. He just put cabinets in the V to hold a small fridge, and bedding and misc stuff. I talked to DS yesterday he has not been on line. Preparing for the trip.  His trailer will not be there we are coming in mine.

leatherneck nice to see you over on this forum!  I havn't been on shopt talk in a while or on line at all for that matter. my two daughters have created some work for me! I don't currently have any pics of my trailer but when I get home tonight I will post a few. dunebound called me last night and told me you were looking.  I can tell you this,  when I bought my h&h I ordered it with the couch/beds and a/c  /  heat option. the heater is no good below 45 degrees. I also ordered it with an rv door assembly instead of the standard door, the rv door was $25 cheaper. but they stung me $60 to put the door on the left side instead of the right and a few other options.

something else to think about if you want to keep it cheap, go to your local salvage yard and buy two rear lounge seats out of full size conversion vans. my couch/beds were an $800 option and the electric dual bunks that come down from the ceiling via track and chain were a $1500 option.

I bought it two years ago and never finished it. but I will have it done before out spring trip, it's just got the bare necessities for now. sorry but I ran out of sunlight before I could take the pics so I took them in night mode.

dunebound69 and I installed the canopy, they told me I would have to put a roller at the top of the door to keep it from ripping a hole in the canopy but it doesn't come close. the a/c unit on top of dunebounds trailer is off of my mothers class a motor home. the motor home over heated and cooked the bigblock 454, but it still runs and moves just no compression in cyc #1 #3 #5. my folks decided to part it out. I bought the canopy with the screen tent enclosure and dunebound bought the a/c unit (for $200)  ;D  and the rest is still there. there is a spring loaded drop down bed that comes down from the ceiling above the captains chairs  it would eat up approx 10" or so of head room. everything else is still there including the onan generator, all the windows, kitchen, table, cabinets, master bed and bathroom. if anyone is interested pm me.

Was working on the ramp overs but got side tracked by Off Road Fury 2 on the playstation in the trailer. Yoda says put the toys in the trailer after the projects are done. Oh well I know I have some bad weather entertainment ready.
