Title: Tubing benders
Post by: SPEC on September 29, 2008, 09:27:41 AM
This topic got out of hand on another site...But it WON'T here :police:
One of our new members is looking into buying a tubing bender in the real near future...
My suggestion is to buy a JD2, and an air over hyd. jack/ram... it is slow but does a nice job and is effortless on my part...The added bonus is I can wheel it all around the shop or out side if need be...it doesn't need to be bolted to the floor, just in reach of an air hose

I just did the same bender with the hf ram and couldnt be happier. Way beter than pulling the bar and nice being able to move it around. Just make shure you have a good compressor to keep up.

I bought the Pro-tools dies and got the plans for free (the HMP200). Built it close to the plans but, I added a 20 ton air-over-hydraulic jack instead of the pump one in the plans. Works great, effortless bends and not too slow. My only regret right now is that it won't go over about 100*. Not really a problem, I just find another way to make what I need!

I paid $950 for my jd2 w 1-1/2  die and notch master notcher, $79 for my copperhaed plate to use the hf ram, and $65 for the ram. I built a stand that cost about $50.

Thanx for the input. Im gonna go the route Spec did and build the bender. I can get the same bender from tractor supply with a bunch of dies for 100 buck cuz it is on sell. Then just buy the ram from Harbor Frieght and put it all together.

Get the one on ebay from TIS Diesel Performance I think its called, only does 90* bends but works flawlessly, and I got him to take 280 shipped with one set of dies. This thing is SOOOO much easier to use than my JD2 clunker I had before!
