Nice job!. I just gotta get a big press and some dimple dies. It just looks so much more professional and stronger too.

BTW ,how big a press tonnage is needed for various diameters with 1/8" max 4130 normalized? Any sources on that info if you don't have it?

I dont have that info. I can tell you though that i use a 12 ton harbor Freight press and it works good. I would suggest a little bigger one because i feel that i am pushing the limit of mine. I cant even remember where i got my die set from i only have 3/4" 1" and 1.5". I wish i could afford more because i love them, I have about $200 in just my three. The biggest i have done is 1/8" but i have seen some buggies from poly performance where they dimpled 1/4"  :u   I would have to have a bullet proof press room to even try that. I think that was with a big 80 ton Drake press though.

Do different thicknesses of material require different dies?

Not sure if they make "dimple dies" But you might take a look at Greenlee stuff.

They make hydraulic hole punches for electrical cabinets and other such things. They have a portable hand pump and cylidner you can take anywhere. Makes real power to force the cutting dies through all sorts of electical cabinets.

Might be easier to use it in certain areas if you cannot fit it in a Floor press or especially if you decide to add dimples later to a part thats already in the build and cannot be put in a floor press.

The Dies I have used with the Greenlee hydraulic punches are VERY similiar to all the dies I have seen used to dimple the metal. Would be easy to fit them up or have a good machinst whip up a set to fit the Greenlee punch part.

No, It depends on the company but most company's say that they will go up to 1/8". Im sure you can do higher but im affraid to try.

I just started reding this thread again. I followed the link and see the dies are from 1018 steel. Wouldn't they wear out rather quickly?
