I heat mine with a Reznor 75K natural gas furnace.  The shop is 980 sq. ft.  I keep it at 50 when I'm not out there and only bring it up to 60-65 when I use it.  A 60K might do the job more efficiently, but if you're lowering  the temp way down, (like I do) the 75K can bring the temp back up quick.
My gas cost has only been about 100 per month in Jan/Feb. That's using it about 2hrs a night and weekends.
The shop was spray foam insulated so it's pretty tight, except for the two 8x10 doors.

I heat one shop, thats about 550 sq ft, 10' ceiling with a down draft mobile home furnace in the corner, run on propane, cost me about 50.00 month, I to keep it 45 degrees when not in use, and bring it to 65 when in use, the other shop i heat with diesel fuel salamander, that shop is going with the house tho....The other shop has r-19 in the walls, 5/8 drywall and about r-60 blown in the roof... ;D

Original shop 2640 sq.ft./10" ceilings is heated with 60K BTU overhead industrial heater. Kept at 50 and brought up to 65 daily .R-19 walls and ceiling.Runs 150 bux average in winter.Cooled with 3 tons salvaged from house when central hat and air was replaced.Too small and runs 150-200 month to cool and barely stays80 or less.

Shop addition is 2880 sq.ft./12 '6" ceiling. Will heat cool with outside package unit with 150K BTU/5 tons. R-19 ceiling and R-38 ceiling.Hope to see cheaper costs than original shop.Won't know till winter though.
