I remember it well, You looked at me like I was crazy.  :m Nearly all ex manifolds are installed without a gasket OEM. It takes a flat and smooth surface on both the head and the manifold. I use the Ultra Copper silicone stuff for minor irregularities that come about with repeated R&R.

WHen using any of the rtv stuff remember to always let the rtv to be exposed to air for at least a few minutes to allow it to absorb a little moisture from the air before bolting it up. If you do not do that the silicone will not cure properly. Moisture is essential to beginning the curing process. The dryer the air the longer you need it to be exposed to air.

:m  i had never heard of anyone doing it that way on turbo gas engines. i did believe you installed your v8 manifolds that way. i know all 7.3 diesel exh manifolds are installed w/o gaskets.

i am going to remove my copper gasket and re check my manifold to see if its still flat. i will reinstall with rvt extreme temp copper. i'll give that a try.

good info on humidity and silicone btw

i came a cross that link looking for the p/n for the copper raised ring gasket i used. thought you might like to see that......an i told you so moment  LMAO

In a tight fit up the silicone needs ample time to cure especially in thin applications. I like to give it 24 hours before starting engine. Make sure you give it maybe even 15-20 minutes exposure to air to begin to cure . I just run a  small bead around the tubes, let sit and then bolt it up. I do not spread it out before assembling. I also use only https://www.permatex.com/products/gasketing/permatex-ultra-copper-maximum-temperature-rtv-silicone-gasket-maker/

I also use this little gem. https://goodson.com/products/eb-416-the-tube-grip-eb-416?variant=29264031430 Worth every penny!!!!! You have ultimate control of dispensing and you can get every last bit of product from tube. It will pay for itself in no time.
