Title: 87' GSXR 1100 cyclerail
Post by: barndawg on December 13, 2008, 11:01:43 PM
I've been reworking a beat up old vw voyager frame for a couple years now. Not making much progress due to lack of specific suspension fabrication knowledge. So I bought this medium travel single seater that looks to have been scratch built in the 90's. I have since really grown to love the motorcycle power and intend on pursueing this powerplant for a while ;D before I get back to work on the scirocco powered voyager buggy.

This is pics of the day we got it, mods start now

I love this site! I have been looking for some info/ideas for too long. I thought the exact thing about the gas tank. As it turned out all it took to repoision the tank was flipping the brackets and adding some 1/2" spacers.  :m Freakin hillarious. I also threw my bigger 7 gln. tank in it, it bearly fits. I'm a nut, It was built to be a single seater flyer. It's long and skinny, but I have to share the ride or it's not the same. I pulled the bucket and added a bench, which worked out to be easier to make it a right hand drive. Plus it leaves one hand free to grab my ladies hip on those "scrary" climbs. Mods: turbo, 55-60 sprocket, lights, huge paddles :) had to weld my frame back together a couple times @ Dumont  :)

No radiator on my 87' 1100, it's all oil cooled. I have 3 oil coolers w/1 fan and I always have to keep engine temp. in mind between really hard runs. I wish I was water cooled. I've worked in the auto. cooling industry for 10+ yrs. & to answer your question, I'd find a v.w. rad. that has metal housed electric cooling fans that are decently mounted to the rad. already. The in & out hoses are about as small as you'll find. Always figured that'd make a quality cheap way out, salvage yard.  ;)
