Standalone EFI
« on: June 23, 2014, 11:02:28 AM »
For a highly modified v-8. Does anyone have personal experience with any of the current aftermarket efi systems such as FAST or Holley Dominator or Edelbrock stuff?  I'm swaying myself toward the Holley Dominator setup since I plan on running E85 and/or 110 gas and it allows 4 maps accessible with the flick of a key switch to allow ,pretty much, flex fuel capability on the fly.  Any opinions?

Dyno shop next door wont use anything but the fast.  He is a dealer.  Just saying.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

Stay away from the Edelbrock stuff.  I know someone who tried it and it never did run right.  It wasn't from a lack of talent or tenacity on the owner/installers part either.  He just couldn't get it to run right.

The FAST stuff is apparently great stuff.I have read only good things about it/them for years. Only "issue" for me is the inability to store an E85 fuel and timing map and just flip a switch to go to 110 gas fuel and timing. The FAST stuff is just the ecu with source your own components. So far as I can tell the Holley Dominator EFI is the only one with the stored map option and offers decently sized throttle bodies to boot.It is a complete, build as needed and buy setup from Holley also.
I ,many years ago bought the old original Holley 1D TBI aftermarket injection. Talk about primitive!!!! LOL!!!! It worked surprising well tho.

ask the guy next to fast what can be done for the e85 110 change over. maybe he can use a toggle switch like some do with motech?

Everything I read says no. I've done a bit of research.

I believe that any of the big 4 systems are pretty much equally capable for me. I am leaning towards toward the Holley system tho. Might be a bit easier for me. Everything points that way anyhow.

I watch one of the hot rod shows, and they were installing the Holley setup on old hot rod car.  Real simple install and wiring!!

I may look into it if $$$ allows for my Mustang build for Candice.  Its my new build thread!  ;D
You can keep your CHANGE, I'd like to keep my DOLLAR.

Holley uses the same ecm for all of their new units, basic to full blown. A person can start off with a TBI and ,if desired,go to full sequential port injection later without having to buy a new ecm. I like that even though I won't be doing tbi.
