Fabr's Desert Car (As If I Don't Have Enough on My Plate)
« on: April 19, 2012, 07:52:32 PM »
If all goes well tomorrow I'll officially be on the way to my long awaited start to build my dream car. I have 2 SBC drag engines with all kinds of goodies in/on them. I'll detune the Rodeck one to a basic outlaw sprint car configuration with FI and run it into a sequential 5 speed torque converter transaxle. More on the transaxle when I find out if I buy the Fortin or the Albins tomorrow. EFFFFFF!!!!!!!! these things are effin pricey even used. DAMN!!!!!!
Not gonna waste my time/money on a Mendi though. GOnna be a 2 seater midengine. Anyone have any pics of their favorite 2 seaters? I favor the mose cars but am open to suggestions.

There is a blue LS1 mid Tatum that has been for sale awhile.  Super nice.  Here is a green counter part in Subaru.  Having a hard time finding the blue one.

Mosebilt also makes a very cool mid two.  He can likely tell you some pitfalls to aoid and may have one sitting around - i know not your style, but worth a call.

Call Kevin McMullin of McMullian off road for insight on Albins vs. Fortin.  Some Albins had very small screws that would come out leaving a 7k rebuild every other trip - he has lots of insight from the off road boys on both makes.

Ya, I like BOTH of those. The Albins is a bit more money but I get all kinds of pros and cons on both the Fortin and the Albins. Seems like most things,ya either hate 'em or love "em. Not much middle ground with opinions.

Call Kevin - he has no axe to grind with either.  Works on em both.  Might have insight re: Partsm etc.  They are both lots of coin.

Can't go wrong with the Mosebilt 2 seat look.  That black one you had as an avatar was perfect IMO.

Are you starting from scratch on frame design etc?

Pretty much. Gonna put the VMC to use on things like A arms and such in billet Ally. I really like the A/H/Y ,whatever you want to call it, rear suspension I have. Unless someone convinces me otherwise OR I have bad luck at St Anthony's with the design it will be on this car. I DOOOOO like that black Mosebilt car also. Might need to take Yummis advise and see if he has one laying around. If he did without any rear suspension on it yet it might be a good possibility to consider as a platform to start from. That approach though seems to always bite me in the ass. Too many compromises. I'm getting SOOOOOO confused! LOL!

Side View. Problem is doing a arm rear is the shock top mount would be about a foot farther rearward. It'd change the look a good bit but that is the caae with any existing design out there.

Serious?  Five link?  No.  Too much power.  Stick with tried and true.  Do the whole trailing arm thing and be done with it.

Yep,  I really like that one.

It would only make sense to have the shocks straight above the arms.  It will change the look big time.

You could leave the shocks there and add a linkage to the arms.  Or lay them down across the middle with or without linkage.

Need to think about that a bit.

Are you adverse to some of those 4" shocks with a higher ratio, like a 10" travel shock with 2:1 ratio.  Otherwise your gonna have a tall tower.

Or follow Yummis wise advice.

;) not my style. ;D ;D The A arms, imo ,are tried and true and with fewer disadvantages to the driveline.
